Wait----did you already e-file your tax return?   And did you forget to enter the 1099R for your pension?  Was your return accepted?    What about Michigan----did you file it already?

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been submitted, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.

Follow the instructions to:

Amend TurboTax Online

Here's where to enter your 1099-R in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. In the Federal section, select Wages & Income.
  3. Scroll to locate Retirement Plans and Social Security.
  4. Select Start or Revisit next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

For Michigan Home Heating credit:

  1. In your Michigan return continue until you get to the screen Take a look at Michigan Credit and Taxes.
  2. Scroll Down to Home Heating Credit.
