If you want to change or correct some info on your tax return after you've filed it, you may need to amend your return.

To amend your return for the tax year 2024, select 2024 from the pulldown in the Documents tab.

Here are some things to know before you begin:

  • Wait until your return has been accepted (or mailed if paper-filing).

  • Use the same TurboTax account you used to file your original return.

  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due.

  • Any changes you make to amend your federal return will automatically be transferred over to your state return.

If you haven't filed yet, you don't need to amend. Just continue working on your return and make whatever changes you need before filing.

To amend an accepted return, either:

  • Search for the item you need to amend (W-2Form 1098-Erental income, etc.) and select the Jump to link that appears to be taken to that section. Follow the screens to enter your information. Or,

  • Restart the amend process by selecting Tax Home and following the screens to enter your information.

We couldn't find a 2023 return under this User ID. There also aren't any other TurboTax accounts tied to your email.

To find other accounts that use a different email address, Sign out and then select I forgot my user ID or password. Enter your other email address and sign in.

Note: It's best to do your taxes in the same account every year so your returns are all in one place. If you've tried all of your accounts: Try one of these options or get a copy of your return from the IRS.

If you haven't filed yet, you don't need to amend. Just continue working on your return and make whatever changes you need before filing.

We couldn't find a 2023 return in the account you're using now, but we did find other accounts tied to your email. Try checking your other User IDs to sign in and find your return.

Right now, your e-filed return is Pending, which means you can't amend.

Keep an eye on your email. Once you get notified that your e-file status has changed, come back here and we'll help you amend.

When you're ready to amend, you can either:

  • Search for the item you need to amend (W-2Form 1098-Erental income, etc.) and select the Jump to link that appears to be taken to that section. Follow the screens to enter your information. Or,

  • Restart the amend process by selecting Tax Home and following the screens to enter your information.

Since your return was rejected, you can just make any changes you need (along with fixing your error) and resubmit your return. You don't technically need to amend.
