How do I amend my tax return in Turbo Tax Live Assisted Business or Full Service?
by TurboTax• Updated 3 weeks ago
You can't file tax amendments in Live Assisted Business or Full Service right now, but an expert can help. Here's how to file a business tax amendment.
1. Download a copy of your return
You’ll need a copy of your return to use for your amendment.
- Log into your TurboTax online account. Make sure it is the same account you used to file your taxes in prior years.
- Select the blue circle with your initial in it, and select Manage your intuit account
- Select documents
- Select Select business and choose the business taxes you need to amend.
- Select the checkmark next to the return from the year you’d like to amend, then select download.
Note: Depending on the tax year you selected, your download may be a .tax file or a PDF file. Both can be used to file your amendment.
2. Reach out to an Expert
While logged into your TurboTax Online account, select the Live help option to contact an expert. Tell them you need to file a return and mention exactly which year you're amending. They’ll give you the necessary desktop software to file it.
3. Install the desktop software
Your expert will provide a complimentary desktop copy of TurboTax Business to file your amendment. Follow their instructions to download it and read How do I get started with TurboTax Desktop? for installation guidance.
4. Recreate your return
If you downloaded a .tax file:
- Open TurboTax, select File and then Open Tax Return
- Locate where your .tax file is on your computer and select Open.
If you downloaded a PDF file: Use the PDF copy of your original return and re-enter your tax year details into your downloaded TurboTax Business software.
Note: You do not need to file your recreated return to amend it.
5. File your amendment
Follow the guidance outlined in How do I amend my federal return with TurboTax Business Desktop.
