Filing late taxes - Which TurboTax plan is best for me?

Which plan will be best to choose as an investor, beneficiary of an irrevocable trust and someone who needs to make a state filing as a non resident (for the trust)? I have several questions that I need assistance with so I know I need to choose one that offers assistance. I feel frustrated though because the plan offerings seem a little misleading - not as straight forward as I had hoped.

I already started doing the taxes using TurboTax  just haven't committed to a plan, yet because I am unsure. I have Q's about filling out information for schedules k-1 and kf and also about form 8949.

I tried to call TurboTax to ask about pricing but ended up hanging up - couldn't get past the automated voice "agent". Very frustrating.

For your personal return.  If you have investments or a K-1 you need to use the Online Premier version.  Or any of the Desktop CD/Download programs.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms, you just get more help in the higher versions.

Start an Online return here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online

Or buy the Desktop CD or the Download program here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download

If you need to do the Trust tax return you need to buy Turbo Tax Business, not to be confused with the personal Home & Business version. Home & Business is just for personal returns that need schedule C for self employment. TT Business is not available to do online or on a Mac. You can buy the Windows Desktop program here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/small-business-taxes

You can have both a personal program and the Business program installed on the same computer at the same time.

You will get a W2 or K-1 from the business return to enter into your personal return. So you will need to do the Business return first.

Hi and thank you, VolvoGirl.

The trust is an irrevocable one from which I received distributions as a beneficiary. Do I still need Turbo tax business to file for that?

Also, I should have clarified, I'm only trying to choose amongst options for filing via online and not considering purchase of CD software.

For Online you need Premier to enter K-1 and investment sales.  You can start with Deluxe but if you need to enter something Deluxe doesn't handle it will ask you to upgrade.  You need to use Premier if you get  a K-1  from the trust.

By "Premier" do you mean, "Premium"?

The Premier edition is available from this TurboTax website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/

The Premium edition is available from this TurboTax website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/premium/

Note - The Premium edition is a new online edition which combines the Premier and Self-Employed editions

Ok. Thank you.

I hope there are some promotions/special offers for Premier. I'll have to double check as I think I saw a coupon for TurboTax come through in my e-mail.

Looks like I am already committed to Premium where Premier would suit me better. Is there a way to change the tier/package? I have read that it's not possible or very difficult to change after you have made your selection (even without paying). Do you know anything about this?

You can try to downgrade but you have to clear and start over

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-online/00/26444

Or if it doesn't let you clear and you haven't paid and filed you could just start a new account.  Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-start-another-return-in-turbotax-online/00/25596

If you want to use a lower version without losing your entries,  one thing you can do is move your Online file to a lower Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info. All the Desktop programs have the same forms.  You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  Plus the Desktop programs have several more features over online.

To continue in the desktop version see this…….
