Form 8995A populates a field with a ghost K-1

Turbo Tax populates an amount on line 28 of Form 8995-A, even though we have never owned or reported either PTP income or REIT dividends. When I check the data source, it lists two ghost K-1s but these K-1s don't show on the document list and cannot be accessed. The only solution I have found for this is to override the entry, which disqualifies us from filing electronically. I have searched back through 13 years of K-1s to make sure no PTP or REIT income was held in a partnership we participated in. Suggestions? How to delete the ghost K-1s?

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)

Thank you for your response. I am traveling for a couple weeks and cannot access my files. I will follow up with you when I get home.

I have transmitted the file.  Should I post the Token Number here?

If you still need assistance, you can post your token number here.  If you have already filed, then it would not be needed.

Maybe you can delete the K-1s this way.  Go to the K-1 interview section here
Federal on the left
Wages and Income
Then scroll way down to Business Items (or S-Corps, Partnerships, Trusts)
Schedule K-1 - Click the Start or Revisit button

If the first screen says "Do you want to review Schedule K-1?". You have to answer yes and then click Update by the Schedule K-1 type (LLC, S corp, trust). The next screen is the Summary screen listing all of the K-1 entered for that type of entity. You can review, edit or delete it there.

Thank you for your suggestion.  I tried it, but no K-1's are listed for review. It prompts me to enter a K-1.

Thank you.  I've reviewed your diagnostic file and am seeing the same thing as you.  I cannot determine what the source of line 28 based upon what I'm able to see.  I recommend you contact us for additional assistance.  This will allow the agent to open an investigation to have this situation looked into further for a resolution.
