From the IRS :
How quickly will I get my refund?
We issue most refunds in less than 21 calendar days.
I’m counting on my refund for something important. Can I expect to receive it in 21 days?
Many different factors can affect the timing of your refund after we receive your return. Even though we issue most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your refund may take longer. Also, remember to take into consideration the time it takes for your financial institution to post the refund to your account or for you to receive it by mail.
It's been longer than 21 days since the IRS received my return and I haven’t gotten my refund. Why?
Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:
Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
We will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return.
I claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) on my tax return. When can I expect my refund?
According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue EITC and ACTC refunds before mid-February. The IRS expects most EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by the first week of March, if they chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return. Check Where’s My Refund for your personalized refund date.
Where’s My Refund? on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go mobile app remains the best way to check the status of a refund. WMR on IRS.gov and the IRS2Go app
will be updated with projected deposit dates for most early EITC/ACTC refund filers by February 22. So EITC /ACTC filers will not see an update to their refund status for several days after Feb. 15.
Will calling you help me get my refund any faster?
No. Our phone and walk-in representatives can only research the status of your refund 21 days after you filed electronically; 6 weeks after you mailed your paper return; or if Where’s My Refund? directs you to contact us.
What information does Where’s My Refund? have?
It has information on the most recent tax year refund we have on file for you.
When can I start checking Where’s My Refund? for my refund’s status?
24 hours after we’ve received your electronically filed tax return or 4 weeks after you’ve mailed a paper tax return.
Will Where’s My Refund? show me when I’ll receive my refund?
Where’s My Refund? will give you a personalized date after we process your return and approve your refund.
I filed my taxes in January and i received my state refund but yet to receive my Federal refund. Could someone please contact me and let me know where my refund is please and thank you. I could really use it during this pandemic. I have already been charged the fee for filing as well. Looking forward to speaking with someone soon. Thank you in advance and Be Blessed.
Sincerely,
Joshua [last name removed]
I filed my taxes in January but still haven’t got my refund yet. I got my stimulus check but not my federal taxes. Need help
**NOTE*** Due to the Corona virus the IRS is operating short staffed. All field offices are closed and some processing centers are all but closed. Any tax return that requires hand processing will probably have long delays. Mailed returns are not being processed at all at this time. Most phone service has been curtailed.

Only the IRS controls when and if a tax refund is Approved and Sent.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Or you can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

My taxes have been done for awhile and I used direct deposits for it and haven't been able to get my stimulus check will my income tax be mailed or direct deposited on my pay pal
Re: Where is my refund it’s been more then 21 days now ?
Unfortunately, the IRS is extremely understaffed due to COVID-19. This has impacted the processing of returns and refunds. If you do not receive your refund by the time the IRS resumes normal operations, please reach out to them at 800 829 1040.
@Gotmoney33
It depends.
The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it has been taking longer with the stimulus payment being issued in addition to the tax refunds.

The online link is your best option to track your refund. I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.
Also, be aware, the IRS operations are limited during the Covid-19 pandemic. Attached is a link with more information as to what departments are available to contact at the moment.
The payment of the stimulus funds can be tracked at the following website:

Did you efile or mail your return? They just started processing mailed returns that have been stacking up..
If you efiled....Was your return Accepted? First double check your efile status here
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.
Then only the IRS can tell you. IRS Where's my refund https://www.irs.gov/refunds/
Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end. That was for federal and state combined.
When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say?
When will you get your refund,

It's been 18 weeks since the IRS received my paper filing (I sent it certified so I know the date they received it). Everyone else I know who filed paper returns have received their refunds or some correspondence from the IRS by now. I checked "Where's My Refund" online and there is no information listed. I know the IRS is understaffed, but I'm concerned that my return may have been lost. How can I check if they even have my return?

Use the procedure in the answer directly above your post to contact the IRS about your tax refund.
I actually reached someone at the IRS. They still have no record of my return in the system because the Fresno, CA office still has thousands of returns that haven't been processed. They said the timeframe for refunds for regular returns filed by April 15 has been extended to 6 weeks after August 1st.
