When I was ready to file they posted $89 $49 and $49 total $178 but I didn't want the last $49 which would have made my payment $138

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

(Of course, you must remove them BEFORE you e-file)

 

• Remove Premium Services
• Remove MAX Defend & Restore
• Remove a state
• Remove PLUS Help & Support
• Remove Pay With Your Refund

Did you request that your fees be deducted from your refund? If so, the third party bank that handles that transaction will charge $49 for the service. They receive the refund, pay the fees and send you the rest.  That’s an additional charge by the third party bank that you agree to when you request that your fees be paid by your refund.
