I e-filed with turbotax in January, and finally last Friday Feb 19 2016 the IRS "Where's My Refund" page said "Refund Sent". Only problem is, it said a "Check was being mailed". I asked for a direct deposit. Never had a problem in past years with the direct deposit. Anyone else seeing this problem?
The IRS can choose to mail a check instead of honoring the direct deposit for any reason. This can happen if your DD information is incorrect or as part of the new Anti Fraud systems put in place this year.
This just happened to me as well. Refund was finally approved after 21 days and now says scheduled to be mailed by next week. I asked for DD and all my info was correct. How long did it take for you to receive your check via mail? This is extremely upsetting.
Happened to me for 2017 return. DDA and routing was CORRECT and yet they still sent via a check. Nice way for the government to earn the float on my money. An IRS rep said this sometimes happens if you press a space or enter in the DDA or ACH field on turbo tax. The IRS picks this up as valid data and it nullifies it being accurate......grrrrrr
after I put in my bank info on irs get my payment website on apr 15th after couple days now it show they will mail a check on april 24 2020 to my address on file , why? then why they made this website for people to put in bank info?
I just checked my also, everything I put in was correct! I checked over and over to make sure I put it in correctly. Not happy about this at all.
I gave my bank accòunt information on my tax form. Why does it says they are mailing it out?
Only the IRS can provide that information. If there was an error in your routing or bank account number or the bank rejected the deposit, then that would cause the IRS to mail your refund check. Please see the below TurboTax Help Article for information on contacting the IRS:
How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?
Just happened to me for 2021 taxes. I thought some scammer hijacked my account. Used the same bank info for 4+ years and now IRS doesn't like it ? I will post an update once I get the letter. (or not)
There may be a dollar limit to direct deposit, either form the IRS or by your bank.
I've literally had my refund DD into the same account for over decade. This is the FIRST time this has ever happened. Unfortunately due to this, my son and I will not be able to take our annual spring break trip... I count on those funds annually for our trip. This is heart breaking.
If you included your direct deposit information and for whatever reason, the deposit is sent back to the IRS, they will then send a check. This is something we don't have control over.
Actually the ENTIRE situation was weird this year. My state refund was issued almost immediately, however, my federal return didn't have a status besides received until "mid to late February," to due changes in the "Child tax Credit." Like this year with the IRS was a complete anomaly. Then once the refund was approved it said mailing. Personally I don't feel comfortable receiving that check by mail, which is why I've been doing DD for over a decade. Can you provide insight to why they delayed the processing of payments due to the PATH I believe Bill?
Please see this Help Article for an explanation about the PATH ACT in relation to refunds with the Earned Income Credit and/or Additional Child Tax Credit.
Thank you for your feedback. But now I'm incredibly confused and would like to speak with the IRS and a TurboTax representative. I only claim the Child Tax Credit, not the Additionally Child Tax Credit. Something is wrong.
We are in the EXACT same situation! I've used DD for well over a decade. never an issue. this year we did the same and the IRS website says "to be mailed." my state refund will be in my account before federal and that has never occurred. It gets better. I received the paper check today. endorsed it and deposited. like you we are relying on these funds and may miss a mortgage payment or other bill if not sorted soon. I assumed all good. but upon examination my receipt has a cryptic message of a notice of delayed deposit for the entire amount. it goes on to says "check within the deposit may not be paid because of information we've received from the paying bank..." Of course the paying bank is the federal government. All of this is VERY SHADY! WHY DOES THE IRS SEEM TO BE GETTING LESS COMPETENT OR INTENTIONALLY COVERT AFTER HIRING AN ARMY WORTH OF NEW AGENTS?!? anyways sorry about your predicament and your missed trip. I wanted to let you know I have experienced the exact same issue. thanks and good luck!
My in-laws are having this exact same issue. First their acceptance for their tax return was delayed five days after it was sent from TurboTax. Once it was finally accepted, it took longer than other individuals tax returns to be processed. They filed on February 10th 2023 and it wasn't even accepted until February 15th 2023. Then it was approved on March 4th, 2023. They do NOT have any of the credits (child tax credit/EITC) and it still took a long time to process this year. Their State refund finished processing on February 23rd 2023. Today is March 15, 2023 and they still have not received their state refund. They received notice that their federal refund was going to be mailed on March 4th 2023. They have used DD with this (crappy US BANK) for decades. Then on March 10th, 2023 the WMR site shows it was mailed March 10th, 2023 AND ~ IF THEY DON'T RECEIVE IT BY APRIL 7TH, 2023 THEN CONTACT THE IRS (because it's out of their hands until then). What in the heck is going on? What an inconvenience and a scam by the IRS and the US Government. Keeping funds that DO NOT belong to them as long as they possibly can. There have been more delays this year than in all of the past years. Complete and utter incompetence.
What is the process ? When your TurboTax fee comes from your refund that is being mailed ? Does the IRS mail two checks? One to Turbotax and one to you? Or does TurboTax get the check then mail it to you?
If the IRS is holding your refund, mailed you a check, or reduced or offset your refund to the point where it’s not enough to cover your TurboTax fees, you'll receive a Request for Payment email, which includes instructions on how you can pay your TurboTax fees (minus the Refund Processing fee, if any).
Ok. So if the IRS mails me a check. I will get a bill from TurboTax? To pay the fees?
thanks
Yes, TurboTax will send you an email with instructions on how to pay your TurboTax fees (minus the Pay With My Refund fee, if any) by a certain date. The below TurboTax Help article provides more details about how to pay your fees when they aren't deducted from your refund. Even though your situation is that your check is being mailed, the process remains the same.
What if my federal refund isn't enough to cover my TurboTax fees?
