So my taxes were accepted on 1/19 and 1/22 but I still have not received a date yet or had no updates. Is that normal?

Updates come from the IRS or state---and you have to look for them yourself.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund earlier than late February.

I have been checking the IRS. I guess I should have been a little clearer. Lol I know turbo tax has no control after it is accepted. I also know the earned child tax credit holds things up. I hear everyone saying the 27th for theirs but turbo tax said mine was accepted but it hasn't changed on the IRS page to accepted so there is no date. Is that normal?

@ksummit0423 Are you seeing nothing at all on the IRS site about your return?   TurboTax says it was accepted?  Are you using the right information on the IRS refund site?

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund.  Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.

Your federal refund amount is on line 35a of your Form 1040

Yes using the federal amount social and filling status. Only the first bar is colored in it doesn't show accepted even though turbo tax says it was. Someone told me that if you have ever had child support taken out it will take you longer bc they have to verify you don't owe anything? Is that true? Bc I have had child support taken out before

The first bar means received for them.  The second bar fills after it is processed.  It is perfectly normal for a tax return to remain in received status while it is looked at until it is completed by the service.  Once they have finished whatever review is necessary the second bar will fill and then the refund will be processed.

As a downside, if they need to send you a letter in order to collect more information for any reason your return will remain in 'received' status until after you have received that letter and responded to it.
