I need to amend my 2023 return and the link on the website is broken. I have tried multiple computers and multiple browsers. Help!!

I am extremely frustrated that there is no ability to talk to a person to help figure this out. I have tried the help chat and called the number and neither one will connect me to a person because I have not yet paid for 2024. Why should that matter? Do better TurboTax. I have been a customer for ~10 years, but am unlikely to continue with this lack of support.

Do not use the Amend using TurboTax Online button. Instead do this:

  1. Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information
  2. Then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen
  3. Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents
  4. Click on Tax Year 2023
  5. Click on Amend (change) 2023 return

How to amend my return?

This is exactly what I did and the button/link does not work. Please have your tech team look into it or call me to walk through it so I can show you that it does not work. I really need to get this resolved.

If you used TurboTax Online in 2023, try this:

  1. Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information
  2. Then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen
  3. Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents
  4. Click on Tax Year 2023
  5. Click on Amend (change) 2023 return

You should first close TurboTax, clear your Cache and Cookies, then return to the 2024 tax return to enter some initial info.

Yes, I have tried that. It doesn’t work. I have tried from multiple computers and browsers. Could someone please check into the issue instead of assuming user error?

@libbygayton You will have to purchase and download one of the 2023 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

If you paid for the 2023 online account contact TurboTax support as they can push a 2023 desktop installation file to your download account at no charge.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for contacting support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/contact-turbotax/L2y9ZKpQB_US_en_US

Support can also be reached by messaging them on these pages https://www.facebook.com/turbotax/ and https://twitter.com/TeamTurboTax

After installing the 2023 desktop software you need to access the 2023 online account and download the tax data file.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year 2023 and Click on Download .tax file

After the tax data file is downloaded, you need to start the 2023 desktop program.  Then click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen and then click on Open Tax Return.  Browse to the location you downloaded the 2023 tax data file, it has a file extension of .tax2023

With the 2023 tax return opened, click on Federal Taxes

Click on Other Tax Situations

Under Other Tax Forms

On Amend a return, click the start button

It is assumed user error because the link works for everyone else.  Use the Chrome browser on a computer.  Clear data on the browser for all time, then try again.
