Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit. If the information you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the government will issue you a refund check via mail.
However, if your return hasn't already posted to the IRS's system, you can ask them to stop the direct deposit. You may call them toll-free at 800-829-1040, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

It is too late to make any changes to direct deposit if your return has been accepted.. Please know that If your refund was sent to a bank account under someone else’s name, or you entered the wrong account or wrong routing number, your refund will be rejected by the bank and will be returned to the IRS. You will eventually receive a paper check from the IRS, mailed to the address you entered on your return.
Expect that to delay your refund by at least another two weeks or more. You may want to contact your banking providing for further assistance. Or you can also contact your local IRS office.

On February 2-26-2020 I was Supposed to receive my Texas when the February 26, 2020 came I realize I didn’t put all the numbers in when I didn’t receive the money in my account on the 26th the day I was expecting my Texas. I’ll check the Irs System and they said a check was made to me but I didn’t get the check deposited into my account because it was rejected by the bank. I File my tax’s With TurboTax. So I had to call the Santa Barbara bank and put in my information. And it’s help me when the IRS Has sent them my refund. I didn’t get them on the February 26, 2020 but I receive them on March 3-7-2020 In the mail so it’s at like 10 days total including the weekend.
Hello I jus realized I have put the wrong account do I need to call anyone my ddd is tomorrow
If you have put the wrong account number, the IRS will attempt to direct deposit your refund on your direct deposit date. If the account number is incorrect it will then be routed back to the IRS and they will issue you a check in the mail.
You can attempt to contact the IRS to see if there is anything they can do about this by following the instructions here.

When I filed my taxes this year I forgot to give my tax payer my account information can the IRS still locate my bank account information and still deposit my check?
Did you fix the solution to your problem? I am in a similar position. I just noticed that my 2018 tax return I accidentally added an extra number on my bank account information. And I recently checked the IRS tool to see if I was getting my stimulus check, and it said it deposited April 15. However, I didn't receive anything and that is when I noticed that I had the wrong bank account information.
I just filed my 2019 taxes last weekend.
What is weird to me, is that I did receive my 2018 tax refund last year on my bank account through direct deposit.
I honestly don't know who to contact or what to do. Does anyone happen to know and can guide me?
Thanks.
Hi, how can you change the bank information on IRS. I cannot find it anywhere? It only let's me check my status.
Online e-filing I have written wrong account number .my account number is [number removed] I wrote [removed] refund already credited in account [number removed].
For what year? For 2019, if the bank rejects the deposit the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return. For 2020 you can change it when you efile. What do you mean you already got your refund? Then what is the problem?
Your banking information cannot be changed after your tax return has been filed and accepted.
Banking information does not go from TT to the IRS until you file your 2020 tax return and it is accepted. You enter/change banking information in the FILE section before you file your 2020 return. Changing it on the TurboTax site does not do any good until you file your return. If they manage to send out stimulus checks before you can change your information, we hope the IRS provides a way for you to change it with the IRS. If your check goes to a wrong or closed account, it will be sent back to the IRS and then the IRS will mail a check to the address on your tax return.
I just filed my taxes and realized it has the incorrect routing and account number. It was not accepted how can I change it?
Once you have filed your return, you are not able to change the method you will receive your refund. See our FAQ regarding Entering the wrong direct deposit information.
I also accidentally left out one number of my account number. I was supposed to receive my refund direct deposit on 2/24. On the wheres my refund app it still says sent. Where can I go find a date I should receive it in the mail?
Your refund will be sent back to the IRS and then the IRS will issue a check. You will not see a date for the check--- you will just have to watch your mailbox. Getting the check will take at least a couple of extra weeks.
