I filed late since I couldn't get a we from a former employer...

So... I had to file late (start of October) since I never got a w2 from a former employer. Went round and round with them trying to get it or at the very least the ein. I tried filing by mail but apparently it wasn't received. Finally got the info from the IRS and was able to file, but I owe back child support. How long will this delay my return?

We cannot possibly predict how long it will take.  You do not say how long ago you filed  the return, or if the back child support you owe is less than the refund you are seeing on the tax return.  They might seize the  whole refund.

All you can do is check the IRS site to see what they are doing.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20a of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

I filed on the 3rd and my refund far exceeds my child support, I only owe a few hundred in child support (mistakenly wasn't monitoring that my new job was sending it). My refund was accepted and I efiled.

Then all you can do now is wait and see what the IRS does.  Only the IRS is in control.  TurboTax gets no updates on the status of your refund.  It will take at least four weeks from when you mailed the return to see anything on the IRS site.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
