I chose to mail the return but am changing my mind to efile. How do I change to efiling (I see amend but need to know the EXACT steps from there)?

NO.  Do NOT start amending the return.   Do not click on Amend.   We can tell you how to change the filing method, if you did NOT actually mail the return.    You didn't say if you had actually mailed it or not.

Does TurboTax think you were going to file by printing and mailing, so your return is closed, but you haven't actually mailed anything?  And are you asking how to change filing methods for your unfiled return?

If you haven't actually filed at all, you can open the return back up and change the filing method.   But do NOT use the Amend link, or you'll have problems.

• Log into your account, and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2019, look for a link "Add a State."
• Click on "Add a State."  (That doesn't really add one; that's just to open the return.)
• Once the return is open, go through the REVIEW section to be sure everything is still in order.
• Then go to the FILE section and change the filing method to efile.
• Then continue on answering all the remaining screens and at the final step click a big orange button "Transmit Returns Now."

Printed return but want to Efile.  One zip code is incorrect so how can I change it so I can Efile?

So I'll assume you didn't actually mail the return after printing it.

If you haven't actually filed at all, you can open the return interview back up, make any corrections, and change the filing method.    There are several places that ask for a zip code, so I don't know which topic you plan to revisit.  But in any case, here's how to do it:

• Log into your account, and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2020, look for a link "Add a State."
• Click on "Add a State."  (That doesn't really add one; that's just to open the return.)
• Once the return is open, you can make any changes in your return you need to, since it has not been filed.
• Then go through the REVIEW section to be sure everything is still in order.
• Then go to the FILE section, go through the screens there, and change the filing method to efile.
• Then continue on answering all the remaining screens and at the final step click a big orange button "Transmit Returns Now."

Oh good grief!  Oops!!

There was a typo in my steps above.  It said "Your Tax Returns & Documents for 2019" when I meant to say "2020".   Right after I submitted it, I saw it.   It has now been corrected, but you may have been emailed the steps showing the "2019" instead of the correct "2020."  Sorry for any confusion.

You mentioned "email" at one point above, but I presume that's a typo since you want to efile.   You cannot file a return by email, so I assume you mean efile.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert but have been searching for sometime to find the answer to changing from mail in to efile. I efile  my Federal and selected the option to mail my State Tax. Once I had closed out of Turbo tax on my Desktop Computer , I remembered that my printer needed Toner.  I logged back in but I was faced with only the Federal Tax Return option. Ok, I waited until the last minute and  I was in panic mode when  I stumble upon the solution. 

Ok here goes:

1. Log into Turbo Tax on your Computer

2. It opens up to a box displaying the Tax year working on

3. Hit the Continue Button

4. Select "File A Return "Tab located on the next page in the         top left corner. 

5.  On the page displayed  you will be able to hit  "Continue" 

6. this will take you to the option to change your mail in to           efile.

I guess this is old information?  I do not have a tax returns and documents section anymore.  All I want to do is change the filing method from mail (which I have not done) to efile but I cannot figure this out.  TurboTax has gotten way too complicated for filing.  I don't even have choices anymore in the Tax Home section.  All I have when I click is a summary and there's not way to change it I can figure out.
