I cannot file in Maryland because it says Form 8582 is not ready to be filed due to a change in the federal form. I can't find an update to correct this error.

How can I bypass this error message so I can file my returns?

This is a known TurboTax error and is currently being investigated.  See the article I'm linking below.  So sorry for the inconvenience.

Why is TurboTax generating Form 8582 when I have no passive activity loss in the state of Maryland?

@TeresaM I do not see an opportunity to sign up for notifications in the link you shared.  IS there such an opportunity?

There was an update but it DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM in the Maryland return so I still cannot file.  I'm so bummed.

If the form does not apply to you, you have NO passive losses, and you want to use the advice of others:

@dpearce22    states for online:

For everyone using the online version there is a work-around that allowed me to file the MD state. When you are on the screen showing the form 8582 with the 0 in the line nine position; right-click in the box with the 0; select "inspect". A bunch of coded text will come up on the right side of the screen. There is a highlighted portion that is directly related to line 9 that you just right-clicked on. In the highlighted section you will see disabled="disabled". Change it to read enabled="enabled". When you do that click over to the 0. in line nine because it will allow you to edit that field now. Delete the 0 and the period. Go back and change enabled="enabled" back to the original disabled="disabled". Then click on continue to finish filing the state tax forms. If you have errors on both state and federal, you should fix the federal first and then use this work-around to fix the state errors. IF you do it the other way it will undo the state fix and you will have to do it again.

@eternal3 states for desktop pc:

I have the turbotax deluxe.  In the top right hand corner across from the Federal Refund and Maryland Refund tabs there are three titled tabs, FormsFlagsNotitifications. Click on the Forms tabs, afterwards the Form 8582 automatic appears on screen.  Scroll through the form and see if there are any amounts listed on the Form.  If so, go to the column(s) the amount(s) are on and right click your mouse until see other options appear which will show the override option.  Click override to the delete any amounts if generated on the form, then down the bottom click close form.  Once the amounts were deleted the form immediately was gone and I was able to continue to file taxes. Of course, this only applies if the form is not related to your taxes. I filed a MD tax form.

@conor33 for desktop MAC:

I found that you can bypass the 8582 error by using right click, inspect, and editing the code for the "0" in the top left corner of the 8582 Form and the "0" in box 9. I'm using a macbook and I'm not sure how that would look on PC.

I was also able to file today BUT COULD NOT PRINT THE MARYLAND RETURN as it says some form is not yet finalized.  Were you able to print the 502?

@forbiro I've just learned that TurboTax is experiencing some delay with state forms availability.  So the problem you're having with downloading/printing is a TT issue and is being addressed.

Thanks!   I was able to finalize my returns and file, but not print my MD return.  I'm still waiting on a resolution.

If you were able to finalize and file your state return, you should be able to use the FAQ link provided below to download and print your state return. Please let us know if this does not resolve your issue:
