Efile federal status

I efile federal today , got an email message that my return was transmitted and accepted by IRS . i went to the irs web site that confirms my return to check status . I am glad I have a pdf copy that showed the return was electronic transmitted .

however on my Desktop app says that I have not filed . I am confused of the status and how it will effect me  . Any insights would be much appreciated

You just e-filed today?   You are expecting the IRS to show information on the refund site too soon.   Give the IRS a couple of days and then you can check the refund site.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Sorry for the misunderstanding , I have no issues with irs , the issue is with turbo app stating that I did not Efile yet while it did.

My  tax return on the app does not have a efiled status . Just waiting to Be Filed

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

Yes, as I stated I efile and irs has it .

got the 2 emails as asked .

the issue is that turbo app still shows that it is waiting to be efile. Not Already efiled on the return in turbo tax app .

Sorry again if i an not clear enough

Not sure where you are looking ---- if you used desktop software you are not going to see anything about your 2021 return in an online account.   You will see that you filed it in your desktop software.   Click Review.

Firstly , Turbo tax should state I have already file instead of allowing me to file again and secondly in previous years , It is said that I have already file in the status  on my desktop version app.

So there is a mismatch between turbo efiled transmit and what is on the app desktop that did not record it transmitted earlier

@Anonymous It is impossible to e-file the same tax return twice.  Any attempt to file the same return again would be rejected.   Contact customer support for help.

To call TurboTax customer support

Customer support is available from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific time daily

Yea , you are correct that you cannot File twice.
i know my tax transmit / efiled was good to irs. It is just my desktop turbo tax that state I need to efile based on the status

anyway , I called support today but no success

1) first call was 1 hour and she told me that she will escalate but instead she closed the ticket

2) 2nd call was 2 hours and she was working with someone on chat I believe but it was too long to be on the phone and asked for follow up to me via email and not closed the ticket

this year has been problematic with turbo, besides this issue , 1116 schedule b and update loop problems.

anyway , my return is good this year but the .tax file / turbo app is the issue which i will have to deal next year ( if I turbo tax)  if support cannot resolve .

thanks for your reply

There is nothing to be dealt with next year, if you know your 2021 AGI you can e-File next year.

TurboTax does not have a desktop app.  It has a desktop program that can be downloaded to a desktop or installed from a CD..  The app is for a tablet or mobile phone.  If you filed from a desktop you either used the desktop version or the online version.  Check the program that you filed from.

Correct ... if you filed from the online program and it was accepted then transferred the return to the downloaded version it will NOT have the acceptance information ... the programs do not communicate that way.

but for my case , it was transmitted from my desktop version not online  .

however my desktop app still shows status unfiled even when it had. The turbo desktop app does not reflect correct status which is already efile

What was the final outcome here?    I have the same thing transmitted return have the 2 emails from turbotax 1 says it was submitted and a 2nd saying the IRS has accepted it but when I go into turbotax to check the status it is back at the transmit return.  I have even tried to submit the return again it says it has already been submitted and to contact customer service ---- which I can't wait hours on the phone

@Anonymous   Did you look here?

For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program. Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Then save your return with the status. Go to File-Save.

If you have the desktop software (CD/download), I'm curious what happens when you do this?  This is for the Windows version:

Launch TurboTax and open your return.

Then go to the top left corner and in the top menubar click on the FILE menu to see a dropdown menu.

Then in the submenu click on Electronic Filing.

Then in the next menu check these things:

  • Check Electronic Filing Status
  • Check Electronic Filing History
  • Show Electronic Filing Customer Service Messages

Yes, I did.

TT is just broken.

@kseller . For your curiosity:

  •
  • Check Electronic Filing Status - you haven't efile
  • Check Electronic Filing History -   there is no electronic history
  • Show Electronic Filing Customer Service Messages - there is No customer ..

Above is the status you wanted me to check. TT is broken. (TT was updated  today)

My outcome is not resolved. And as you know CUSTOMER service is not resolving it.

I am just waiting  IRS to process my return accepted March 12, hopefully  I will know by April 15th.

If it is NOT good, I will resubmit via  OLT if IRS does not process. Wish me luck

I have the same problem. Federal and State filed. Have the emails and text messages saying that they were both transmitted and accepted. Turbo Tax desktop program still shows that I have not efiled. Turbo tax was extremely difficult to use this year. May have to search for a different tax program

I have much of the same issue as have emails from TT that both Federal and State e-files have been accepted.  This was after Federal was 1st rejected, which also caused the State to be rejected.   The State was originally rejected based on  Federal being rejected, but once accepted via email, the State was accepted. The Desktop program now shows Federal rejected, but State is accepted.

I believe my filing was problematic as it must have fallen into the hole of millions of 2020 tax returns that had not been reviewed by the IRS.  The rejection was because the 2020 AGI was not on file, and therefore, could not be verified by e-File.  I read an article in the Washington Post that a work-around had been developed by entering $0 as the 2020 AGI.  After I made that change, I received the email from the IRS that 2021 submission was accepted.  I will wait and see if the TT software ever recognizes the acceptance because it still wants a real value in 2020 AGI.

Anyway, I decided to try 2022 TT again.  I was able to use the unefiled tax file 2021 to import to 2022, thanks to the dicussion board members help. I guess if this year I encounter this problem again, I should try another program. I am a glutton to punishment to try this year again with the foreign credit missing 1116 schedule and incorrect efile status.
