Does anyone know why the federal tax returns are taking so long to get to people because I have been waiting over two months for mine?

No one knows why your refund is taking longer --- are you under review or is there a "delay" message on the refund site for your refund?   If you made a mistake with the child tax credit or recovery rebate credit that would cause a delay---many people have had delays from mistakes they made.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

If a return was e-filed and can be totally processed by computer it is very fast, however if there is anything that requires manual checking, including routine random checks, then because the huge backlog, it can take months since the IRS is still working on about a million 2020 tax returns for over a year.    Because of the pandemic, the IRS lost a large part of it's workforce and is very short handed.
