TurboTax does not issue tax refunds.

Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.

If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions

TurboTax does not issue any refunds.  The IRS does.  Please continue to read:

Generally, the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, although some require additional time.

You should only call if it has been:

  • 21 days or more since you e-filed
  • 6 weeks or more since you mailed your return, or when
  • "Where is my refund" tells you to contact the IRS

FAQ refund

Per IRS, if you e file your returns and choose to receive the refund through direct deposit, you should expect to receive your refund within 21 days of IRS e-file acceptance.  If you filed a paper return, allow 4 weeks before checking the status. Refund processing time is 6 to 8 weeks from the date the IRS receives your tax return.

However, if you have claimed Earned Income Credit EITC or Additional Child Tax Credit ACTC on your return, it will be later. The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit cards starting February 27, 2019, assuming these taxpayers select direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax returns.

I am also still waiting.  Has anyone filing with turbotax received a refund?  Is there another error similar to the one with the stimulus payments?

Have you checked the IRS Where's My Refund tool?  How are you expecting to receive you refund?

The IRS says that it will issue 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days.  However, if:

  • You have e-filed your 2020 Federal tax return,
  • You are claiming a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return, and
  • Your tax return has been accepted by the IRS.

We suspect that the IRS will scrutinize stimulus payments that were issued against the tax returns that claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.  We do not know how much delay that the IRS will incur in such cases.

Implementation of the American Rescue Plan will further strain the resources of the IRS.  IRS live phone assistance is extremely limited at this time.  For stimulus payment questions, call 800-919-9835.

Follow the TurboTax COVID Tax Center and the IRS Economic Impact Payment Information Center for further developments.

Yes.  I checked the tool and there has been no update.  It has been over the 3 weeks.  Again I will ask, has anyone received a refund so far using turbotax?

TurboTax does not receive updates from the IRS once they have accepted your return.

With the IRS filing delay and backlog this tax season due to COVID closing the offices and leaving the IRS with very few employees working for the past year, the IRS has not stated how long it will take to deposit tax refunds. Your tax refund may be deposited in your bank account before the IRS has a chance to update your information on the Where's My Refund website

Please click IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue to learn more.

If you e-filed, make sure the return was e-filed successfully and accepted:

  • Re-check your e-file status

Make sure to enter the federal refund amount without the state refund, less any TurboTax fees if you chose to pay any fees out of the refund.

  • If you are married filing jointly try using the Social Security Number for the name that appears first on the return.

If you have already tried the above on the IRS WMR website, you can check the status of your refund by calling the IRS Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.

Please check Why is there no record of my return at Where's My Refund (WMR)? to learn more.
