My amended 2022 returned for federal was rejected with the following error:
"IND-181-01 - The Primary Taxpayer did not enter a valid Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN). Please visit [IRS website] for further information and resubmit your return with the correct number."
However, when I log into TurboTax to fix it via the link in the email, there is no option for me to fix it - it is instead directing me to download TT desktop and do it there, which contradicts what the email says...
Note: My amended state return is still pending. Do I have to wait until the state return is accepted/rejected until I amend the federal?
If your Federal didn't go through, your state didn't either. Here is how you can add the IP Pin:
Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN:
Or another way:
Thank you, but I think you misunderstood my question. I am unable to reopen my return. It is telling me that my return was rejected, my state is pending, but I can't even open the return to fix the issue.
Please call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
Did you get a response to this? I am in the same boat. I filed an amendment for 2023. It was rejected because I didn't update my IP PIN to the current one (I didn't know that was how it should be. I thought each one correlated to a tax year but apparently not). The live chat is completely useless. As most of these responses are. It seems TurboTax has a bug. I really don't want to mail it in. It takes forever to process that way.
An amended 2023 return cannot be e-filed. The only way to file it now is by mail, since you did not e-file it in 2024. It has to be printed, signed and dated ink, and sent by mail.
Expect it to take a long time----amended returns are not processed quickly.
It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

I read the past 2-3 years prior could be efiled here on a TurboTax Q&A. However, certain reasons can not be ammended via efile. Nothing about a rejected amend though. I just experienced being redirected to fix the rejected amend via the windows desketop. At the end it did nothing. So I closed it and went back in where it then prompted me to print and mail. Very confusing. Better safe than sorry though. So all 27 pages will snail away. If I remember, I will update on the receipt of my amend.Good Luck All
