I got a CP01A notice from the IRS
by TurboTax•353• Updated 3 weeks ago
If you got a notice from the IRS, don’t worry. We’ll do our best to help you figure out what to do next.
The notice tells you about the 6-digit Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) and includes instructions on how to use it. This PIN is to help prevent the misuse of your Social Security number.
We will ask for the IP PIN when you prepare your tax return.
You can obtain more detailed info about the IP PIN from the IRS.
Once you have the PIN
- On the Did you or your spouse get an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes? screen, select Yes.
- On the Review your Identity Protection PIN info screen, select the pen icon (Edit) next to the spouse's name.
- On the Tell us spouse's Identity Protection PIN screen, enter or correct the IP PIN and select Continue.
- On the Review your Identity Protection PIN info screen, select Done.
- Select File in the menu.
- On the Welcome back screen, select Continue.
- Don't select Fix my return.
- Select Start next to Step 3 to refile your return.
