How do I amend Schedule C after I’ve filed my return?

To change your Schedule C after you file, you must file a Form 1040-X, also known as amending your return.

Only start an amendment after the IRS accepts your original return. If your return is still pending or was rejected, don't start an amendment. Fix the error and resubmit the original return.

If you have already received your refund or paid your tax bill, you can begin the process.

The IRS can take up to 16 weeks to process amended returns. You can track your progress using the IRS Where’s My Amended Return? tool.
