What is e-file reject F1099R-502-02?

SOLVEDby TurboTax1614Updated 2 weeks ago

E-file reject F1099R-502-02 happens when the employer’s name or federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) that you entered from your 1099-R form doesn't match the IRS database.

The error could be as simple as a missing or mistyped letter or number. A payer’s EIN number has 9 digits with the format: 99-9999999.

Other, less common reasons for this rejection include:

  • The payer's information in the IRS database is wrong.
  • Your 1099-R form is incorrect or is missing information.
  • No EIN number? Most likely this is from a foreign payer and they will not have an EIN. In this case the return will need to be mailed.
  • The payer’s 1099-R form was imported into TurboTax resulting in an undetected error.

Make sure you have your 1099-R(s) handy, and then follow the instructions for the platform or device you're working on to fix and refile you return.
