E-file reject F1099R-502-02 happens when the employer’s name or federal EIN (Employer Identification Number) that you entered from your 1099-R Form doesn't match the IRS database.
The error could be as simple as a missing or mistyped letter or number. A payer’s EIN number has 9 digits with the format: 99-9999999.
Other, less common reasons for this rejection include:
- The payer's information in the IRS database is wrong
- Your 1099-R form is incorrect or is missing information
- No EIN number? Most likely this is from a foreign payer and they will not have an EIN. In this case the return will need to be mailed
- The payer’s 1099-R form was imported into TurboTax resulting in an undetected error
Make sure you have your 1099-R(s) handy, then follow the instructions for the platform or device you're working on to fix and refile you return:
