Where do I enter last year's AGI in TurboTax?

Your adjusted gross income (AGI) is equal to the total income you report minus specific deductions, or adjustments, that you’re eligible to take. To verify your identity when e-filing, the IRS requires either the AGI from your prior year tax return or the 5-digit Self Select PIN you created when filing last year. If assigned one, a valid current year Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is required and can also be used for verification purposes.

When filing with TurboTax, IRS verification is part of step 3 of the File section.

  • You will first be asked if you have an IP PIN. If you select Yes and enter your 6-digit IP PIN, this will verify your identity and you won’t have to enter a prior year AGI or Self Select PIN.

  • If you don't enter an IP PIN, you’ll be asked to provide your prior year AGI.

  • If you don't have your AGI, when asked what tax paperwork you have, select  I can't get my 2024 tax return for more options, including entering the 5-digit Self Select PIN you created when filing last year.
