You're eligible if you:

  • Didn't file with TurboTax last year
  • Start and file your taxes using the TurboTax or CreditKarma mobile app
  • File using the Do It Yourself product. TurboTax Experts products are excluded.
  • File by February 28, 2026

When does this offer start and end?

The offer is active from December 3, 2025 to February 28, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET.

What happens if I file my taxes after February 28?

If you file after February 28, 2026, the cost of TurboTax goes back to regular pricing, which is based on the complexity of your tax return.

Do I have to upgrade if I have a complex tax situation?

We might ask you to upgrade, but we’ll waive the fee as long as you file on the app by February 28. This applies to our paid Do It Yourself Standard, Deluxe, and Premium products, which are typically required for more complex tax situations.

What happens if I want help from an expert filing my taxes?

You’re eligible for this offer only when using TurboTax Do It Yourself products. If you decide to upgrade to TurboTax Experts or TurboTax Full Service products the cost of TurboTax will go back to regular pricing.

What if I don’t end up filing my taxes using the app?

You’re eligible for this offer only when you start and file your taxes in the TurboTax or CreditKarma mobile app. This does not include filing on a mobile web browser.

If you switch to doing your taxes using a web browser, you will receive a reminder that you must file in the mobile app to redeem the offer. If you choose not to file in the app, the cost of TurboTax will go back to the regular pricing, which is based on the complexity of your tax return.

Can I start my taxes in the mobile app and then switch to standard web or mobile web to complete some of my taxes?

Yes, you can complete some of your taxes while in standard or mobile web, but you must start your taxes in the TurboTax or CreditKarma mobile app and file in the mobile app to be eligible for the offer.

Can I still file for free without taking the offer?

Yes, you can file with TurboTax free edition on any platform if you qualify. You must have a Simple Form 1040 return only (no schedules, except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A) in order to qualify. ~37% of taxpayers qualify to file with TurboTax Free Edition. To start for free outside of this offer, select Start for free on the Free Edition Learn More page on our website.

What if I did file with TurboTax last year?

This offer is only available to taxpayers who did not file with TurboTax last year. Keep in mind, if you filed with us the year before last, but not last year, you’re still eligible. If you don’t meet this eligibility requirement, please log out, then sign in using the same credentials you used last year.

What’s the difference between this offer and TurboTax Free Edition?

This is a new, limited-time offer that provides free, do-it-yourself filing for any tax situation. To be eligible for this offer you must start and complete in the TurboTax or CreditKarma mobile app, you must not have filed your taxes using TurboTax last year, and you must file your taxes by February 28, 2026.

TurboTax Free Edition is available all season long, on any platform (app, stationary web, or mobile web). Only customers with simple tax situations are eligible for Free Edition. If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no schedules, except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A), you can file for free with TurboTax Free Edition when you do your own taxes. ~37% of taxpayers qualify to file with TurboTax Free Edition.

What if I have multiple state tax returns? Am I still eligible?

Yes, you’re still eligible if you have multiple state tax returns as long as you meet the other requirements of the offer (start and complete in app, did not file with TurboTax last year, file by February 28, 2026).

What if I was claimed as a dependent last year and am now filing on my own?

You are still eligible for the offer as long as you meet the other eligibility requirements of the offer (start and complete in the TurboTax or CreditKarma app, did not file with TurboTax last year, file by 2/28).

What if I filed as Married Filed Jointly last year and am now filing separately?

You would not be eligible for this offer since you filed with TurboTax last year.
