When your direct deposit doesn't go through, we'll send your refund as a paper check to the address on your tax return. We can only send this check once. If you aren’t able to cash your check, see your situation below for more info.
What if I never got my check?
If the check didn't reach you (like you moved or it got lost in the mail), your refund will go back to the IRS or your state tax authority. From there, you'll work with them directly to get it reissued.
Here's what to do:
Update your address with the IRS or your state tax authority.
Once your address is current, they'll send your refund to you.
What if I got the check but can't cash it?
A few things can hold up a check at the bank, like a name mismatch or a bank that wants to verify the check first.
Here's what to do:
Ask your bank or check-cashing location to call 1-800-780-9247 to verify the check. This line is for banks and check-cashing locations only, so you'll want to hand this number to them directly.
If your bank verifies the check and you still can't cash it, contact us at 1-800-446-8848.
Select your version of TurboTax, then follow the steps provided.
