Due to an issue, some TurboTax customers who imported their W-2 form into TurboTax might have missing data in their tax return. Please note, when using import services, the customer is responsible for verifying the accuracy of the information that is imported—see Terms of Service for details.
If we notified you, we recommend you review your return and, if needed, amend your return as soon as possible. If you need to amend and the result is a tax underpayment, amending before April 15, 2026 will help you avoid penalties and interest. If you need to amend and the result was a tax overpayment, you’ll be able to get the money back in your pocket where it belongs!
To review the data on your return and determine if an amendment is required, please follow the instructions below.
In TurboTax Online:
Start from the Tax Home.
Go to Your tax return & documents.
Select Amend (change) return.
Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
Continue through the onboarding questions until you arrive at Here’s the info for your federal return.
Identify the Wages & Income section.
Review the Wages & Income section to find W-2s on your return.
Review your imported W-2 and manually add any missing information, or select the Delete icon to remove it and upload a new copy.
After correcting any W-2 that needed an edit, continue through the rest of the amend process.
Pay special attention to whether the changes made to your return require an additional payment to the IRS or state agency. TurboTax will inform you if any additional tax payment is required.
If you have reviewed the W-2 form(s) reported on your return and found no duplicate W-2s, you may leave TurboTax without filing an amended return. The IRS and your state agency will continue to refer to the most recent return you have filed with them.
