Will I be able to use TurboTax 2020 on my iMac with High Sierra OS, version 10.13.6?

My iMac can't be upgraded beyond High Sierra

Sorry, the Mac 2020 desktop versions requires OSX 10.14 or higher due to Apples developer package dropping support for earlier versions.

The online versions can be used with any comparable browser.

This answer is extremely disappointing. Please research a solution, such as maintenance of a development environment that can produce the application for 10.13.6 users.

until this is resolved, I have removed TurboTax advantage from my account.

Sorry ... there is and never will be a solution to the MAC planned obsolescence protocols unless they change them  ... once something is no longer supported by APPLE  software companies are unable to do anything but comply with the new requirements ... complain to APPLE if you don't like it.

Yes, it is disappointing, but it is Apples decision to only support the last 2 OS releases which for 2020 are 10.14 and 10.15 with its developer software.

And yes, some software vendors do maintain older developer packages and release several versions of their software to be comparable with older Mac versions, but most of those vendors only offer a single product  and only rarely update it.

TurboTax has 4 different Mac versions and tax software always needs numerous updates since the IRS releases form changes at various times.   For example, since the first 2019 versions was released last November, there have been about 15-20 updates for each of the 4 versions.    It is just not economically feasible to do that for Mac versions no longer supported by Apple.

That is just not going to happen.

I have been using TurboTax for several years on my old 10.13.6 iMac so what can I use now to file my 2020 return?

@Franky3Goldman

Sorry you either need to upgrade your Mac to a newer OS or get or borrow a newer Mac or use a WIndows computer. Or you can use the Online internet version this year. If you can't run Turbo Tax you can get a refund. https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/forms/refund-request.jsp

If you need to switch to the Online version you can transfer from 2019 into the Online version. If you used the Desktop program last year here's how to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year. You will need to have the filed ending in .tax2019 on your computer. Transferring from last year will clear out anything you have entered for 2020 and you will have to start over.

If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2020 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend it in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

Mac System Requirements. For 2020 you will need macOS Mojave 10.14 or later

If you cannot upgrade the Mac, you can use the online version of TurboTax.

I need an answer to this question please.  I only have OS 10.13.6.  What can I use now to file my 2020 return? Thanks.

You can use the Online version.

You can't apply the Desktop CD/Download purchase to Online.  You have to pay for Online separately.  You will have to get a refund for the Desktop program.  Then you can use the Online web version.  Or try to upgrade your Mac or find another computer to install it on.  The CD has both Windows and Mac programs on it.

Or Call in for a refund. When you fill out the from use the word BILLING ISSUES instead of the word “refund.” Contact Customer Service 5am-9pm Pacific time 7 days a week, https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact

They might give you a service code to use the online version.

If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2020 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

So we have to pay for Turbo Tax twice because 2020 won't work on my current iMac, on top of that I have to do everything online.    Sorry I just don't trust putting all my information online, and before you say anything about your security, what don't you ask your self how many letters you have received from companies that promised to safeguard your information but still managed to let someone get a hold of it with out permission.    MacOs 10.13 is not that old, 10.14 only came out in the last few months!

I don't work for Turbo Tax and I don't use the Online Version either.  I agree with you.  I don't trust online either.

You don't have to pay twice.  You should be able to get a refund then pay for online.

I ended up buying a new MacBook Air.  Not only to use TurboTax, but also other updates.  The new M1 MBA is pretty fabulous. Even the low end machine is amazing. Recommended.

This is fairly BS... maintaining tax changes in a well architected platform should be essentially table and parameter driven  the premise that you have to rearchitect the core platform because the tax code has changed is  a little simple minded.   I fail to see why i have to upgrade my computer to run an application to do taxes.   I guess I'll be moving on to another application.   Been on turbotax for more than a decade, but I can move on.

Changes in the tax code is not the issue at all ... if your MAC OS is no longer being supported by apple then don't expect some programs to continue to support old OS either.   Windows 7 is no longer supported either, those users also had to upgrade for the TT program.

Your other option is to use the ONLINE system instead.

I would have been nice if the retailers that sell the download would post this before purchasing

I was similarly in this position and came up with a very easy solution.  I switched to H&R Block software this year.  The H&R Block equivalent of TurboTax Deluxe software was half the price as well!  H&R Block installed, imported my previous year's TurboTax file, and ran just fine.  So it's clear this is a TurboTax issue.

I have an older mac which runs just fine for everything I use it for - albeit cannot be be upgraded past Max OS X 10.13.6  TurboTax online would have cost me even more since it's a separate fee per person, not inclusive of a few people's taxes like the software is.

I purchased 2020 in good faith. It will not run on my Mac. I cannot upgrade or afford to buy a new computer. I desire a refund for my $80 purchase, please.
