Wife's AGI from last years return?

My tax return got rejected. It is asking for my wife's AGI. She did not have any income last year so do I just put my AGI? Also my return from last year is held up in processing still so not sure that has any thing to do with it? Please help!

You can find AGI by pulling your transcripts off IRS site. Your wife's too. That may help.

Where do I find my AGI?

Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income  (AGI)

If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.

Form 1040        line 8b

If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Home for 2019

If entering the amount from your 2019 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead.  If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2019 AGI may not be in the system.

Note:  If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return.  You will not be able to e-file your state return.

if you filed jointly last year, her AGI is the same as yours and comes from line 8b of the 2019 joint return.

I had the same problem.  The IRA kept rejecting our return.   Turbo Tax kept asking for my wife's AGI.   I could not find it anywhere in last year's return.  That is because we file jointly, and it's not broken down that way.

The issue is with Turbo Tax.  When you get to "Review Your Federal File Choices" you can edit a few things.  The one to edit is "You have provided your identifying information (AGI) for e-filing."   After you click the edit button there are a few choices.  None of the choices were picked.  After I picked the one for filing jointly, Turbo Tax stopped asking for my wife's AGI and the IRS did not reject my return in 15 mins. like it had been.   Now I have to wait 24-48 hours to be sure, but this seems to be the fix.

This was the only screen shot I was able to get of where to pick your filing status.

I hope this works for you!

Update:  This worked!  A few hours latter I received an email confirming the IRS had accepted my return.

it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail.  Then you will know the IRS received it.

If you used the wrong AGI, your e-file  be rejected.  When you get the rejection notice, correct it and re-file.
