Why won't Turbotax 2020 run on my Mac under Mojave?

Followed install instructions, which said Mojave is ok this year. I click the app, the icon bounces a few times in the dock, then nothing.

Update:

My feeling is that the problem is that the TT app doesn't handle exceptions very well. It appears that the first thing TT does is to check for updates. I'm guessing that yesterday the TT update server was swamped or down, and the TT app didn't know what to do, so it simply stopped. Today, the server issue was resolved and everything works. (sigh)

That can happen if the user account that is installed in is not a Administrator account.

Not the problem. I am the sole user and administrator.

My wife is the administrator, but I purchased the TurboTax 2020 for the Mac.

Is this what is blocking the install?  If so how do I get around this?  Didn't have this problem last year.

On a Mac You can only install in User account that is an administrator account.   Any or all Mac accounts can be administrator accounts.

if you get the message "TurboTax cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" then that is caused by the Apple "Gatekeeper" introduced with OS X 10.15 (Catalina).

That has nothing to do with TurboTax and will happen for any application not purchased from the Apple Store.

See this Apple article on this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491

And this TurboTax help article: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/troubleshooting/help/turbotax-for-mac-won-t-open-when-installed/00/26611

For older Mac systems when TurboTax will not open.
See:

Be sure that System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General -> Allow apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers is checked.

Go to the Applications folder and select the TurboTax application in the Finder and right click with the mouse (or control click) ans select the top "open". That should force the first open. After that it should open normally.
