Why was my refund 1018 and i only got 888.00

It could be possible that you owed the IRS and they took your refund to offset the debt owed  and back taxes.  I would suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-3107 to find out if your refund was reduced due to an offset.  If this doesn't apply to you or you feel the refund was reduced in error, call the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778.  

Here are possible reasons why the offset was taken:

·         Past due child support;

·         Debts owed to a federal agency;

·         Unemployment debts owed to the state;

·         Past due federal student loans;

·         Unpaid state income tax.
