Why does TurboTax have me waiting on the 7202-T form?

Because the IRS has not finalized the form 7202 and instructions.

The form is estimated to be available on 01/28/2021 (subject to change)

Go to this website for IRS forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_fed_online_individual.html

Because the IRS has not yet supplied the electronic specifications for the form.   The estimated date is 1/28.

It doesn’t apply to me, so WHY? WHY? WHY???

Level 2

It wouldn’t matter in my case. That is why I am asking “why must I wait for a form that has zilch to do with my return?”

@DoninGA  The form has no business in my stack of forms, so again I must ask “why am I waiting on a form I don’t require in order to file my taxes?” ANYONE OUT THERE UNDERSTAND WHAT IM TRYING TO GET A VALID ANSWER FOR?

Don’t need the 7202!!

AAANYONE KNOW WHY THEY ARE STATING THEY ARE SENDING IT TO ME WHEN IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY TAX RETURN NEEDS??

@macuser_22 Don’t know how else to say it.

Dont require this form, therefore WHY must I sit and WAIT to receive a form I will not be using?

Does that make clearer sense to all you pros?

WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO FILE BEFORE THE IRS IS EVEN PROCESSING RETURNS THIS YEAR ???

Please don't be in a rush to file.   In the past when there have been major tax law/form changes many of the early filers got caught in a black hole and  their returns were delayed for months in processing or were lost altogether and they had to refile.  So don't be in a hurry to jump into the deep end early.  The IRS has not even posted a start date for processing 2020 returns and it may not start until sometime early February.

That warning said ... look at the form 7202 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f7202--dft.pdf

This form has a deduction that you can use as a SE person so even if you will not take advantage of it you must still complete that section of the interview and the program is not fully functional in that area.  Patience will be needed by all again this year.

Per the IRS instructions for form 7202:

Self-employed individuals should use Form 7202 to figure the
amount to claim for qualified sick and family leave equivalent
credits under the FFCRA on their 2020 tax return. These credits
are available to eligible self-employed individuals if they were
unable to work or telework or had to care for family members for
reasons related to the coronavirus and are refundable.

Then delete the form.  You must have claimed family or sick leave credit for self-employed persons to get that form.

@macuser_22  I hadn’t even begun the filing process. I had merely gone through looking at all the new changes.

I can’t officially begin until I have a ton of forms completed by others, but I did opt to receive an email for when the forms would all be ready, and the 7202 was at the top of the list.

Quite confusing since all I was doing was reading about the brand new parts.

It’d be great if it were that simple, but the customer care reps stated they are hoping to get tax pros manning the incoming calls this year because she’s getting flooded with calls about that one form. Hahaha!!

Yes, there are a lot of forms that are not ready yet, but it yiu don't need any particular form then don't worry about forms you don't need.

Here is the list for forms and available dates.

I’m in the same boat. This doesn’t apply to me so why am I having to wait for this form to be available to E file?

I have not had time to process that new 7202 form yet (the -T just means it belongs to the taxpayer and is NOT part of the form number) but I believe that you still have to address the form in the TT interview even if it is just to decline the deduction/credit.  So to comply with an accuracy guarantee and the lowest tax/largest refund promise they are not allowing taxpayers to just skip that form.  This is for your benefit.  Also don't be in a big rush to file this year ... not only has the IRS not posted a start date for processing  but the last time there were last minute  tax law and form changes  many of the early filers were caught in a glitch that delayed processing of their returns for months ... so patience is rewarded.

As expected ... the  form 7202 is part of the Sch 3 which dumps to the 1040 thus they are linked and the form, even if you will not use it,  must be addressed.  So skipping it is not an option if you have a Sch C on the return.

Again don't be in a rush to file ... don't volunteer to dive into the ocean before the sharks are cleared out.

Hot off the presses ... the IRS start date for processing 2020 returns is 2/12/21 so waiting for the correct forms to be ready is a mute subject now ...

Saaaame situation here. On the IRS website for that credit it says e-file is unsupported. so at this point it’s not even about not being ready yet. Will it even be able to efile if I DO decide to use the credit? Since it says unsupported

The current estimated date for the 7202 is Feb 4.    If you need that form to claim the credit then mail file will be the only option - it will never be e-fileable.

If this form does not apply to you, you can simply remove it from the program.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

1.  Sign into your account, select Take me to my return

2.  Select Tax Tools, click on the drop down arrow

3.  Select Tools

4.  Under Other helpful links, choose Delete a form

5.  Select Delete next to the form 7202 and Continue with My Return

Where were you for weeks when this question was asked. I literally posted the solution to this many hours before you today and now all of a sudden you post the same exact thing pretty much word for word.  Scroll up and see for yourself. You are something else.

Mine wasn't letting me remove it. I finally had to delete it all and start over. Which fixed it. Make sure on 14 in w2s that its empty or click  the appropriate one you have listed.good luck. I filed mine just waiting for TT to send it off on the 4th
