WHY DID YOU CHARGE ME $65 TO FILE MY RETURNS WHEN ONE STATE WAS PAID AT PURCHASE OF 2021 TT-PREMIER

The subject states the QUESTION COMPLETELY.   I paid for 2021 TT-Premier WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO INLCUE ONE STATE TAX FILING.     So, Why did TTAX CHARGE ME $65 to E-file my state & federal return.

BAIT and SWITCH is all too common now from INTUIT PRODUCTS.

TRIED TO CALL the number [phone number removed] for YOUR SANTA BARBARA SCAM OFFICE but the line goes dead when the SSN of the Customer Requesting Assistance is Entered AS DIRECTED.

You can see what you are being charged for. Click on Tax Tools from the Menu on the left side in your return. Click Tools then My Fees

This link will provide more information on the Refund Processing Fee.

What I WAS CHARGED FOR was the SAME #$%^&* THING I PAID FOR WHEN I BOUGHT THE PREMIER 2021 FROM SAMS CLUB  ... THAT PURCHASE WAS ADVERTISED AS INCLUDING ONE STATE E-File

YET,  I WAS FORCED .. NO ALTERNATIVE TO PAYING AN ADDITIONAL $40 FOR A "REFUND PROCESSING FEE" and an additional $25 E-File FEE .   That was $65 beyond cost of the PREMIER version.

EITHER PAY THE ADDITIONAL two additional EXTORTED FEE or FILE RETURNS BY MAIL WERE THE ONLY OPTIONS MADE AVAILABLE AT THE FINAL STEPS OF FILING.     The alternative option was not part of the purchase. ....

----------- Paying additional fees equal to a 100% increase in cost was NOT the PURCHASE DEAL I agreed to.  To be sure, FORCING those additional purchases on customers during the last steps to E-file while under penalty of otherwise having to submit Returns by Mail was NOT-AT-ALL WHAT WAS OFFERED AND ACCEPTED IN THE PURCHASE/SALE AGREEMENT FOR THE 2021 PREMIER VERSION.

WTF ......... after 22 years of using TTAX I would expect the CON JOBS OF ADD-ONS would NOT be something we have to BEWARE of.     Turbo-Tax, at least in my 2 decades plus of continuously relying on Turbo-Tax, has always met my integrity expectations.     Afterall,   TTax has always been far above the reputation level of a SPIRIT or FRONTIER AIRLINES.     But this transaction leads me to believe that THEY DANGED SURE ARE STARTING TO BECOME THEM IN THE BAIT AND SWITCH DEPARTMENT; and just like those two tainted entities, customer service at TT is difficult to reach and offered NEITHER INSIGHT NOR  ASSISTANCE TOWARD EXPLAINING WHY I WAS CHARGED TO EFILE ONE STATE TAX AND CHARGED A "REFUND PROCESSING FEE" for submitting that same Return with a refund due.

There is an e-file fee to e-file a state return when you use desktop software.

Please see this from the TurboTax site:

the addons and charges you are experiencing with TurboTax have been in place like that for many years, as far back as anyone can remember into the murky past. You just noticed now ?

Both of those fees could have been avoided.   To avoid the state e-file fee you can print and mail the state return.   And you did not have to use "refund processing"---you could pay the fee upfront using a credit card.  If you have been using TurboTax desktop software for many years, it is odd that you have not been aware of the state e-file fee.    The software only included the state program to prepare the state return.  There has been a fee to e-file state returns for many years when you use desktop software.

Let's just cut thru the BS and get to the POINT BEING YOU CHEATED ME -- P E R I O D !   I paid for TTAX 2021 PREMIER which included ONE STATE TAX E-FILE.    I filed ONE ... COUNT THEM THERE TTAX RESPONDER ... ONE is the total number of state tax returns E-Filed after I purchased TurboTax 2021 PREMIER and you charged me an additional $65 in order to FILE IT.    .....     That sure looks like Being Cheated to me.   I believe the old terminology was BAIT & SWITCH.       REGARDLESS, TurboTax DID NOT provide the ONE STATE RETURN E-FILE that was paid for in my purchase.   AND THAT IS BS.

STOP WITH THE EXCUSES AND REFUND MY $65.

This is a public forum and we do not have access to see anyone's return or account. You must speak with an agent. Please know that there are higher than normal waiting times as the tax filing deadline approaches. Since you are inquiring about a product refund, it may be better to call after April 18th.

This FAQ will provide you with the steps to contact an agent.

This is exactly my complaint.  One federal and one state are supposed to be free filing for what I paid back in Nov 2024 and then in Jan 2025.  Now, in Feb 2025, it costs $25 for state and, according to TT because I'm getting a refund, $40 more for filing.

Get this:  This is after I paid $75 back in Nov 2024 to download TT Deluxe in the first place and an additional $42.60 22 Jan 2025 for free filing.

Bait and switch and scammy to the max.  Intuit, you suck!

With desktop software you get the federal program and the software to PREPARE state returns for one state of your choosing.  There is a state e-file fee of $25.   You can avoid that state fee if you file the state by mail.  But if you decide to e-file the state, you should pay the $25 upfront using a credit or debit card.  If you choose to pay the $25 fee by having it deducted from your federal refund---you also have just agreed to pay an extra $40 "refund processing fee".

@stephenrkg There has never been a free state e-file filing for a state tax return using the desktop editions.  The current charge is $25 for each state tax return e-filed.  This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state return.

The state e-file fees has been included in the TurboTax desktop editions for at least the last 25 years.

The $40 you were charged is because you selected to have the TurboTax fees paid from your federal tax refund.  You were supposed to use your own credit card so that you would not be charged the $40 fee.  The fee was clearly shown on the page where you were asked to make a payment for the state e-file fee.

If you have not yet filed the 2024 tax return click on File and go back through the section until you land on the payment screen and select Pay with Credit Card.

This has been resolved by John at [phone number removed].  He explained that the $40 extra is only if you select payment of your $25 state tax filing charge from your tax refund.  (And why would anyone pay $65 for a $25 service?  Huh?)   My taxes have now been filed electronically for an additional $25, not $65.

Sorry, but it WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLEAR when the window popped up saying I was going to be paying $25 for filing the state (not the problem) and $40 in addition because I had a federal refund coming (that was the problem).  In fact, just before that I had instructed TT to pay all refunds by direct deposit, as I have always done.  Why would the possibility of paying $40 for the refund even arise if it was already documented that I was receving my refund via direct deposit and had only refunds coming from state and federal.

John, the TT employee who I spoke to on the phone, said that he'd send it up the line that the wording was extremely misleading and try to get the problem fixed.  Hope he does.

I have now paid $75 for TT Deluxe, $42 more for preparing in TT a second state (KS), to which I moved mid-year, and an additional $25 for efiling my first state (VA).  No charge for efiling federal.

Called TT about TT's misleading message about additional $40 charge, which the TT rep said could be seen as misleading and he'd tell management about it.

Virginia saying my return e-filed via TT is a no-refund return, even though they owe me $36.  Can TT explain why Virginia Tax thinks this, even though I'm owed a refund?

The  balance could show as $0 if your return is still in the processing stage.  The Virginia Department of Taxation will accept your return and then check the return for accuracy and for signs of fraud.  The indicator may not show the refund amount until your return has completely processed (moved from return accepted, to return processed).

The Virginia Department of Revenue will also make adjustments if the state has issued a tax refund offset due to a debt owed.  If the Virginia Department of Revenue has received a notice of debt collection, they will offset the refund to $0 and send the refund to the agency requesting payment.

You can follow up with the Virginia Department of Taxation to determine the cause of the change to your return at 804-367-2486.

Thx, Brittany.  Called VirginiaTax and it was an IT glitch on their end.  It's fixed now and their refund amount is virtually the same as mine.

So no problems on TT's end.
