Why did my state return not transmit? Had to delay my state return filing due to some form issue. Received email saying to go online and complete.

Completed info and tried to transmit.  Said Tax Year 2021 transmissions are not available.

Can you please confirm which state you are filing in?

All forms are not available yet for electronic filing for North Carolina. Form D-400 which is used in most returns isn't ready to use yet. Here is a link to the list of North Carolina forms and their availability.

Already paid $20.00 to efile.  Will I have to pay again to efile return when form is available.

No, the e-file charge for the state return should not be requested again since the state e-file was not completed.

The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing.  It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022

Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html

Anyone trying to use TurboTax free version in North Carolina?
OK so there’s a huge delay to be able to file taxes in NC (surprise surprise). There’s a form 400 that people and tax software companies are waiting on from the state. It is supposedly going to be ready Feb 24. I have used TurboTax paid software for probably a decade but am trying out the free version for myself this year. The free version REALLY tries to file both at the same time and errors out for both when you try to file both. The solution is convoluted. Go back, delete the state to start over, but here’s the kicker: real quick, before it starts to automatically attempt to import info from your federal taxes, on the left web page column, click on the file button. I got a little confused at this point as it seemed to go around in a circle when I hit the file nc by mail button, but eventually I got a confirmation that federal went through by itself.

I understand now about the form but the Turbo Tax  form was confusing as to whether I was trying to refile my federal return which had already been accepted when I retried submitting the State form.  I received an email telling me the state forms were ready, else I would not have tried to finish the filing.  Was quite difficult trying to get a satisfactory answer.  Will Turbo Tax inform me AGAIN when the forms are ready for filing?

In this public forum, we are provided with form availability information, but not an explanation as to why the form is not available until that date.  For additional information, it would be necessary to contact customer support.  To do this, please see this Help Article to get in touch with us.

I was finally able to transmit my NC return on 2/20 but have not received acceptance from NC in receiving the file on 2/27/22.  It says to check back in 24 hours. Is there still an issue with NC filing electronically?

The NC DOR will not start accepting NC state tax returns until the week of February 28.
