If you are using TurboTax Online, you may have entered something that triggered an upgrade to a higher version. The final fees are determined by the forms that are required to complete your individual return. States are also extra, and there are some add-ons that  you can agree to buy.

The pricing of online software and the desktop software are very different.   With online TurboTax, you get one return per fee and you pay separate fees for federal and state returns.   With desktop, you can prepare and e-file up to five federal returns and the state returns that go with them (with a $25 state e-file fee).   If you have a full PC or Mac that meets the system requirements for desktop, then desktop is much more cost effective if you have returns to prepare for several people in your family, etc.

That seems silly.  Thanks for the info.  I'm getting the desktop version.
