Why am I still being charged for simple returns? The lawsuit covered 2014-2018 and still into 2022 they hide the free edition and make us pay. I want my money back

The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040.  If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher which is not free.

"The lawsuit covered ... "  = NOT a simple return.

visit the IRS at https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

to find truly free filing. Note that some include free state as well; that's important.

READ the article and get your facts straight :

The settlement will affect 4.4 million customers eligible for the I.R.S. Free File program who were maneuvered to use TurboTax’s free edition in the tax years 2016 through 2018. Customers will be notified automatically and sent checks amounting to roughly $30 for each year that they were compelled to pay for TurboTax.

Now if you start in the FREE option in TT and you have something that requires an upgrade you are told exactly why and how much it will be ... there are no surprises.   SO if you truly want a FREE FILE option you must link in thru the IRS website (where TurboTax and H&R Block no longer participate) if you qualify :
