Upgrading from the Free online edition to the Deluxe online edition - $40

Adding a state tax return - $40

Or choosing the pay with refund option - service charge $39.99

See this TurboTax support FAQ for removing fees - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/what-can-i-do-to-reduce-my-fees/01/26051

OR -

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2019 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

What does it mean adding state tax return? I accepted $40 to upgrade both to Deluxe...and I do not see $39.99 service charge to pay with the refund. I would appreciate if someone could explain what is going on.

Thank you

The Deluxe edition is only for the federal tax return.  If you want to complete a state tax return using the Deluxe edition or higher, the state return is an additional $40.

Go to the TurboTax online edition website and click on State additional under the Deluxe price - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

The $39.99 service charge to pay the TurboTax account fees with the federal tax refund was clearly shown on the web page where you selected to either pay with a credit card or pay with the refund, in Step 1 of the File section.

It should be clearly displayed on the page where you select that payment method, it was easy to scroll past it without realizing it was doubling the charge

That is a ridiculous answer. You said "you should have understood that we are charging you an extra forty dollars for service fee". Noone  could understand that until you are about to sign and be done with taxes. It adds another $80 dollars to the bill that is already $40. That is ridiculous to assume someone could understand that.

The deluxe is $40, for that extra form or whatever it’s called ( example : 401k credit, etc... whatever is not included in the free version).

so basically you paid $40 for deluxe and then $40 for them charge you $40 ( * the processing fee ).

You pay them $40, and then they get $40 for processing your $40.

If you do not want to pay the $40 service charge for the option to pay the TurboTax account fee with your federal tax refund, then remove the pay with refund fee and pay the $40 for the Deluxe online edition with a credit or debit card.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for removing the pay with refund option - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/downgrading/help/how-do-i-remove-pay-with-my-refund-fees-in-turbotax-online-and-change-my-payment-method/01/25880

Yeah this is why I will NEVER use turbo tax ever again they have ruined their trust with customers to become scummy business grubs with hidden fees and extra charges
