Did you file federal?  You can't efile state until federal has been Accepted which won't be until the IRS opens on Feb 12.  And all your state forms are ready to file.

@caron6 To get back into your return and print your state, please see the directions below:

  • Log into the account you filed the return in

  • Click Tax Home to the left

  • Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and click Show

  • Select Add a State to get back in return. (not adding one, just a way to get inside return)

  • In the left hand-menu, select Tax Tools.

  • Select Print Center.

  • Then choose Print

To file your State return by mail, please follow the instructions in the TurboTax link below:

I was unable to pay the $25 state (AL) electronic filing fee.  When I would select the option to pay by credit card, the software would pop me back to the starting page  of the electronic filing page each time.  I then turned off the option of filing the state electronically so I could get the federal taxes files.  That went through fine and was notified on 3/13 that the IRS accepted the filing.  I have been trying daily since then to file the AL state taxes and with each attempt now am told I must file a federal tax form electronically and can not file a state form without doing the federal also.  The federal is done and accepted as I mentioned above.

So far you have not described what you are experiencing.  At least I can't find any comment where you did.  All we know is you have a California state return that I assume you are having some trouble efiling.

If you have a problem, you should explain it in enough detail that someone will know how to comment.  We don't know what product you are referring to--Online TurboTax or desktop software (CD/download).   And you haven't described any roadblock.

Have you filed your federal taxes through TurboTax? If you have, you will be able to e-file your state taxes through TurboTax. Here is an article that will show you how to do it.

How do I e-file my state after I already filed my federal?

If you haven't filed your federal taxes with TurboTax, you will not be able to e-file your state taxes without transferring information from your federal. This article will explain.

Can I prepare and file just my state return using TurboTax?
