Where do I put in the information from my CA Health Insurance Marketplace Statement for 2020, Form FTB 3895?

I was able to put in the information for my 1095-A form (Federal health insurance info), but not my FTB 3895 (CA State health insurance info). Where do I put in the state information?

In your California return you will come to the question:

Did you have health insurance coverage in 2020?
Were you enrolled in any of these less common plans in 2020?
Answer: Yes

What type of plan were you enrolled in?

Answer:  Covered California plan (3895)
Did you receive For 3895 for your health insurance plan?

Answer: Yes. I did receive Form 3895

Let’s get the info from your 3895 form

Fill in the form.  If there is a zero in a field leave it blank in TurboTax.

Effective January 1, 2020, a new state law requires California residents to maintain qualifying health insurance throughout the year. ... Individuals who fail to maintain qualifying health insurance will owe a penalty unless they qualify for an exemption.

I'm having trouble proceeding past this form. do you know what would cause an error?

There Turbo Tax box for the Marketplace-assigned policy number says to use the last 15 Characters however this number is only 8 numbers. maybe this is the conflicting information?

the 1095-A has a 26 number policy number though.

also i wish something would be highlighted so i know what was the error.

thank you in advance.

Both 1095-A and CA 3895 allow 15 characters for the marketplace assigned policy umber

Both 1095-A and CA 3895 allow unlimited characters for Box 1 - Marketplace Identifier

If the program is not letting you input all of the numbers, then use a browser and clear browsing data for all time before signing into TurboTax.

Here's my issue.

I received both a 1095-A for Federal and a FTB 3895 for CA.

I enter my 1095-A info on the federal portion no issues. When I get to the state part it asks me if I had health care coverage. I say yes and ask if I received a 3895 form. I say yes and fill out that form with exact information I received. It then calculates that I get a 22,800 refund from the state. Never received this kind of refund in the past. It seems like Turbo tax didn't carry over the 1095-A info to the state to show that I received federal assistance as well for health insurance.  I called CA Franchise tax board and Covered CA and they seem to think it is aTurbo Tax issue. Is there any software problems with CA turbotax or updates that I didn't get? When I check updates it says I am currently up to date. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Hi Novadog, did you ever receive an answer concerning the glitch for marketplace identifier number: 8 characters v. 15 characters? I'm stuck there too. Thanks for any insights.

SAME ISSUE HERE. CALIFORNIA FORM 3895 CLEARLY SHOWS "MARKETPLACE-ASSIGNED POLICY NUMBER" AS AN 8 DIGIT NUMBER AND TURBO TAX CA STATE FORM IS ASKING FOR A 15 DIGIT NUMBER. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO?

@b292  @musicmafia  The 15 digit thing for the 3895 and the 1095-A is an IRS deal.  They max out at 15 characters.  So if you only have 8 just enter 8.

Here are the IRS instructions for line 2 of the 1095-A-

Line 2. Enter the number the Marketplace assigned to the policy. If the policy number is greater than 15 characters, enter only the last 15 characters.

That comes from here.

@zmaneditor  I created a California return and am unable to get it to repeat the error.  I am going to suggest that you delete your California return and start over, being careful to answer the questions relating to your health insurance.

I was getting an error on CA-3895 that would not let me proceed. I had to take out the amounts in the Monthly enrollment premiums, SLCSP, and Monthly advanced payment  fields and enter them individually by hitting continue and back each time! I could finally go through!

My return has been rejected twice, once for the 3895 and the second time for the 1095-A.  All the information for the 3895 has been entered and that didn't resolve the problem.  Has anyone filed their taxes successfully without a 1095-A.  If so, how?
