When using a CSV from Coinbase Pro, should one use a Fills or Accounts report? Also once this is acquired what headers need to be changed to upload the CSV to TurboTax?

We can help you access your tax forms in Coinbase.

  1. Go to www.coinbase.com/tax-center (you may be prompted to sign in first).
  2. Select 2020 next to Gain/Loss Calculator.
  3. Download each individual CSV file from the list of cryptocurrencies (2,251 is the max amount of transactions you can do in TurboTax).

After you're done, sign in to TurboTax to upload your files (you'll need them to report any gains or losses).

Don’t download any transaction history files as they won't work. If you experience issues downloading, please contact Coinbase directly.

@DawnC doesn't work. Please provide an option that works.

What kind of problem are you experiencing?  If you experience issues downloading the CSV file, please contact Coinbase directly.   Once you have the CSV file downloaded from Coinbase (or one of the other TurboTax partners),

  • Open or continue your return in TurboTax Online (Premier or Self-Employed).
  • Select Federal from the left menu, and Wages & Income from the menu near the top.
  • Scroll down and select Show more next to Investment Income.
  • Select Start or Revisit next to Cryptocurrency.
  • Follow the instructions to upload your CVS file.

Heads up, we only support CSV files from partners.  Your Coinbase file will be compatible as long as it's under 2251 transactions. If you are uploading multiple files, the total of all transactions must be below 2251.

Uploading the CSV can only be done in TurboTax Online, not in the desktop software.  The desktop software will import TXF files.   If you continue to have issues uploading the file, contact customer support to have someone walk you through it.

I too keep getting the same, canned response.  Nothing is working and I am becoming more and more furious that the claims made by both parties are false and they do not even care to acknowledge the issue,

I even contacted coinbase 1-2 weeks ago and still haven’t received a response. Both parties are the issue. @DawnC you able to help out?

Unfortunately, Coinbase no longer supports the direct upload of your CSV file to TurboTax. The good news is, you can access your CSV file through CoinTracker instead, and get the same benefit. Take a look at "How do I get a CSV file from Coinbase?"
