Try restarting your computer.  There may be a file or files that has not fully been updated so the restart should solve the problem.

Save your tax return.  Close the TurboTax program.  Restart the computer.  Start the TurboTax program and see if the problem persists.

@kbrown-lordaecks

1)  are you really using the "Online" browser-based software...or using the "Desktop/Download" software loaded on your computer?

2)  Is it just the state it is asking an update for?...if so, which state?

Thank you for a prompt reply. I've re-started the computer and turbotax 22, still giving me the same message. I've checked and re-installed latest updates several times. Could this be a system error on the receiving end that may resolve in time?

Thank you for your reply. I'm using the download software. It directs me to the menu drop down "Online" and I click on "Check for Updates".  It says I'm updated but when I attempt to submit, still says I need an update.

What state?  Georgia has been having problems updating.

Also, It is Georgia for the State return.

VolvoGirl, you are correct. I'm submitting to Georgia.

Could Georgia be preventing the Federal return from validating, therefore blocking both return submissions?

There is currently an issue filing GA ... hopefully it will be corrected soon.  Try again later this week.

Thank you, think I'll have a beer and try again tomorrow!

Tech support doesn't work on Sundays ... if you have a blance due then print, ink sigh and mail in the return with the payment to stop the late penalties and interest from accruing.   If you have a refund you can wait ... updates usually happen late in the week so check every couple of days.

Have you tried just filing federal?  Maybe that will go through.  Say to mail state ( you can change it later to efile).

Thanks, I'm due a refund, so I'll wait several days. Thank you again!

@kbrown-lordaecks

GA likely won't go....and that is blocking filing Fed & GA together.

You can choose to file the Federal file by itself....others with GA have had Fed stuff go thru by itself ok, if during the filing steps, you chose to just let the FED forms go and do GA later.

Then wait for the software folks to (maybe) fix the GA problem next few weeks.

(again a maybe)

_______________

Software updates usually come out on Wed or Thursday nights, so try to update your software next Friday and try again.

If you are getting a GA refund, shouldn't be an issue waiting a few weeks for a GA fix, but if it doesn't happen by the middle of Aug (or so), you may need to bite the bullet and change to print-file by mail where you take the GA forms to the post office yourself.

Of course, if you owe GA some more $$ with your filing, you may decide to file by mail sooner to stop penalties/interest from accruing....that's up to you.

Stinks...yeah

Great recommendation! I just e-filed Fed only and it went through! Thank you again!

I just e-filed Fed only and it went through. I'll give Georgia a week or two and try again. I'm due a refund so no worries. Thank you again!

@kbrown-lordaecks

Received notice from the TurboTax Moderators that the update on Friday 07/14/2023 should have fixed this issue.

Check your Installed Updates - Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen.  Click on View Installed Updates.  In the update list check to see if the 07/14/2023 update was installed.  If not installed then click on Check for Updates in the Online menu

If it was installed and you are still having the problem of not being able to e-file the Georgia state tax return due to the Failed Validation error then you need to send a diagnostic file to TurboTax for investigation.

Click on Online and then click on Send Tax File to Agent

When the Tax File is created and sent you will get a diagnostic file number.

Post the file number on this thread to the TurboTax Moderator @ErickaY
