When I try to save my Turbotax file I get error 567812 and it won't let me save the file. What do I need to do?

I moved my Income Tax file to my desktop for convenience.  After much consternation re:  not being able to save my file except as a "save as", which went to the desktop file, I realized that turbo couldn't find the original file because the old path had been changed.  When I moved it back from whence I had moved it, all was well.

Turbotax PC version won't work unless the program and the tax file are both located on same disk as the active operating system (the boot drive, usually the C:\ drive).  You also have to be logged into an administrator account to run TurboTax.

Make sure you are logged into an administrator account and then try copying the file to your hard drive and then open it.

If this doesn't work for you, please reach out to us.

For assistance with this, you can call TurboTax and speak with an agent.  TurboTax customer service/support does not have a single phone number but has many different phone numbers based on the type of platform used.  So that we can direct your call to the best person/department to help you:

  1. Click on this link: Contact Us
  2. Select your TurboTax platform.
  3. Ask your question / state your problem.  Do NOT use the word "refund' or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. On the next screen, choose the Call option and follow the instructions.  You will be given the approximate wait time.

You'll get a toll-free number to a TurboTax expert who is specially-trained to handle your particular issue.

Need to get rid of Error 567810 or 12... won't allow saving  Turbo tax file before going to e-filing

See this FAQ on Error 567809 similarly associated with the error 567812 message of not being able to save your return prior to e-filing.

The program used to save your work automatically when you uploaded and/or inputted new data when closing the return you are working on, now it will not even allow you to manually save the work due to this read only error code 567812. Major loss of my time for I will have to redo everything I did on my return.

For years I have used my desktop to do and save my taxes.  This is the first time I am told by Turbotax that they are not using CDs and I have to download my tax software to my desktop to use it.  So I am not understanding why I am getting this same error message when I never did do my taxes online.   I followed your "error message" instructions on saving a tax new document.  Now both new documents are *read only*  So what am I doing wrong?
