This is a known problem and should be corrected by 02/22/2025

To clarify, are you asking about PAPER MAILING instructions?

There would be no instructions for efiling (electronic filing), that would be done through the software.

How will I get them to print when fixed.

If this is the issue addressed in the Help Article, originally titled "Why are there no filing instructions in my printed return", the Help Article now indicates that the issue has been fixed.  You may need to clear your browser history or update your TurboTax software for the update to take effect.

If you are not seeing the file by mail instructions, please see this help article for instructions to prepare your printed return to file by mail.

This IRS webpage shows where to send paper returns depending on your state.

This TurboTax help article contains tax agency information for all states.

To print an individual worksheet from your return in TurboTax Online, before you file but after you pay for your product, you can go to Tax Tools, then Print Center. Choose to print all forms and worksheets, and save to PDF. You can then open the PDF and choose what worksheet to print. Or, you can use your device's Print Screen function. There are normally instructions for mailing the state returns in the worksheets.

As of today, Friday Feb 28, 2025, the filing instructions are showing up when I viewed my return.

They were not there till yesterday.

Filing instructions normally appear in one of the worksheets that TurboTax prepares along with your return documents.

If you are e-filing your returns using TurboTax, the IRS and state agency will be sent one electronic package with the forms prepared by TurboTax including W-2 worksheets.

If you tried to file electronically but the submission failed, confirm that you have a good internet connection. Hardwired connections work best. If you confirmed that all of the procedural steps were followed, you have a good connection, and your original return was fully processed, and you still get the transmission error message, please click here for information to contact TurboTax customer support.

If you choose to file by mail, TurboTax provides instructions for printing and preparing the return to mail with attachments. See here for more information. You will need to attach certain documents with the return at the time it is mailed. Some states have different requirements for attaching documents. See this help article for information to contact the different state tax agencies if needed.

Attach documents to your Federal return as instructed on the front of the return. Copy B is for the Federal return.

See this TurboTax help article for more information.

To be able to see the Filing Instructions sheet (that has all the Tax Return summary etc.), you will need to be able to go into the Print Center in Turbo Tax (I use the online version, so I don't know if it's different for other versions). I can't attach a screenshot here but it looks like this:

------------------------------------------------------------------

TurboTax Print Center
Let us know what you'd like to print or download.

2024 Federal return
Select which forms you'd like to print or download (applies to any return selected above).

Just my tax return(s)

Include government worksheets (optional)

Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional)

View or print forms

------------------------------------------------------------------

Select the box next to the "2024 Federal Return" and then select one of the 3 options (just the return(s), or with worksheets). Then click on "View or print forms". A new window pops up. It takes a few seconds to prepare the documents but what is displayed shows the first page as the Filing Instructions sheet. I tried all 3 options (with or without worksheets) and the Filing Instructions sheet appeared in all 3.

The TurboTax Print Center is under "Tax Tools" in the left frame under Tax Home, Documents etc. when you log in to your TurboTax account. It should be visible while you are working on your taxes (not filed yet).

I found that the Tax Tools show up only if the 2024 Taxes can be seen. Once I had filed my taxes, I could not see any of that information. From the main window, if you can enter your taxes somehow, the Tax Tools etc will appear in the left form (I had to use "Enter State Taxes" or something to have my 2024 Tax information and the Tax Tools appear).

I did not have to do this but if the TurboTax cookies etc on your computer are preventing the new information from loading, you may want to clear the cache, delete the cookies etc. before you log in to the TurboTax account afresh.

Good Luck.

While there is an indication that the issue was resolved, there is no explanation that I can find on how to print the "Electronic Filing Instructions" pages that were included in previous years.  These sheets, one for Federal and one for State, provide simple tax return summaries for showing Adjusted Gross Income, Taxable Income, Total Tax, Total Payments/Credits, Amount to be Refunded or Due, and the Effective Tax Rate.  I have included a redacted version from 2023.  If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Hi, I still cannot access the filing instructions, even after clearing my browser history.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, go to Forms mode by clicking Forms at the top, then when the list of forms appears on the left, click Open Form, and type "filing instructions".  The federal and state instructions will appear in the list to select.

For TurboTax Online:

  1. Open your return
  2. Select Tax Tools then Print Center
  3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
  4. Check the boxes to indicate your federal and state returns
  5. Choose to include Government and TurboTax Worksheets
  6. Click on "View or Print Forms"
  7. Your E-Filing Instruction Sheet should be the first page

This IRS webpage also includes Federal mailing instructions and contacts for the states.
