If you efile, it is an electronic signature (your AGI or 2016 PIN) that does not appear on the paper form.
See https://www.irs.gov/uac/signing-an-electronic-tax-return
So it is normal for the paper form signature boxes to be all blank? It only said "self-prepared."
Yes, you should have received an email confirmation with an ECN number- that is your electronic signature and proof of filing. If you need this, you can log back in and look for your 2016 taxes on your timeline.
Thanks! It wasn't my question but 3 years later I was looking for an answer to the question and yours popped up on google and made my stress level go from 12 to 2 lol! Was stressing myself out badly so 3 years later your reply is still helping so thank you!
and 5 years later for me ! Same worries. This is my first rodeo!
@BobbyC777 This is an old thread. When you e-file a tax return there is no physical signature on the tax form. You sign it electronically by entering your AGI. If you are ever asked someday for a "signed" copy of your return, then use a pen and sign on the line that says "sign here."
This is the sort of confirmation that will let me sleep tonight - thanks!
