When I installed turbo tax I cannot find last year's 2021 taxes and so I am not sure if the data from last year is migrating to this years 2022 taxes. Help!

You have to use exactly the same account and user ID to transfer the 2021 info to 2022.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

And the transfer has to be done before you enter any new 2022 information.

Or are you using the CD/download?    When you start a new return in that software it asks you if you need to transfer last year's return.

If you're using the TurboTax download software, and you're having trouble finding last year's tax file, try searching on your computer for " .tax "  That should bring up any turbotax returns you have saved anywhere.

Great.! I found the file of taxes from 2021. How do I get the data from there into the 2022 Turbo Tax?

So glad you found it!  That's great news.  Here are the steps to transfer.  Hope this helps.

  1. Launch TurboTax 2022 and click Start a New Return (or go to File in the upper left corner and select New Tax Return)
    • Don't select Continue, as transferring is only available on new, empty returns
  2. Click the Transfer Return button on the Good News! screen
    • You can also click Browse and in the pop-up window, select All Files (*.*) from the dropdown menu at the bottom. Then, in the left pane, browse to wherever you stored your 2021 return and click Open
  3. Follow any onscreen instructions. We'll give you opportunities to review, edit, or delete transferred info later on

Note that once you've gone past the Transfer screens, you can't go back to revisit them. If you need to re-do your transfer, go back to step 1 to start over with a new return.
