It's a TXF file.
We can help you access your tax forms in Coinbase.
After you're done, sign in to TurboTax to upload your files (you'll need them to report any gains or losses).
Don’t download any transaction history files as they won't work. If you experience issues downloading, please contact Coinbase directly.

I'm sorry, CoinBase does not have all my transactions. I do track them it CoinTracking.info which I thought was listed in TurboTax Web as being a supported platform, but Cointracker is. I'll just have to do it manually I suppose. It would be nice to understand the format so that I could make the CSV work by shifting columns and naming them right.
Turbotax only accepts CSV files from preapproved partners.
You can do it manually or go through Coinbase, Bitcoin.Tax, Bit Taxer, Coin Tracker, CryptoTrader.Tax, Robinhood, TokenTax, or ZenLedger.
ok... I have the .csv files. Can you give me the step by step proceedure on how to upload these files into TurboTax Premier?
Yes I am on with chat right now and they say unless you happened to choose a turbotax partner company then you have to MANUALLY enter in your transactions. It's a CSV FILE! THIS IS CRAZY!!! Turbotax has been full of good service and things that SOLVED problems that make taxes difficult. This intentionally ruins the experience for do it your self tax people. You lost a previous lifelong customer.
adjust your csv files so the columns are in the same order as on Form 8949.
Put a header with your name year 2019 and SS Number
Use the summary option and then you can mail in the printout of the CSV files.
You would use Category C and/or F since you don't have a 1099-B.
At tax time, you have the option to summarize your transactions by Sales Category.
IRS requires details to be listed on Form 8949,
or on your own forms (e.g. consolidated 1099-B) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.
Either way, if you choose to summarize, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.
I have all my CSV files downloaded however when trying to transfer to turbo tax it rejects them saying ( No Headers found in File ) ? what to do ?
I've been trying to download my csv file from Robinhood to turbo tax for 2 weeks now. At first it wasn't showing in my docs, I had to use a pdf converter to csv. Now it shows but it keeps saying no header found and I can't find any informative.
Yeah that's not true. That response does not work. I spent hours on the phone for that and they could not important it except for the select providers they have partnered with apparently. Turbotax does not care to fix this for their customers. No clue why. Allowing the import of a CSV file for trades is one of the most basic ways of adding tax info possible.
Really that's all you got I've already look though their page, y'all page and it still don't work. Y'all are unbelievable.
It also won't let me upvote others comments on this thread. Why not just solve this instead of ignore us, turbotax? @Gsnap1
Cointracker provides the option to download two types of CSV files, Transaction History and Capital Gains. The Capital Gains CSV file is the one that will upload into TT correctly. This can be found by going to the "Taxes" tab at the top of the screen and selecting "Tax Center." Then, scroll down until you see "Tax Reports" on the right hand side of the screen. Click on "CSV Reports" and download "Capital Gains CSV." This should result in a successful upload of your transactions into TurboTax
Please share a sample CSV file in correct format.
Coinbase only has option to download transaction history in CSV which is not the right information to upload, it even says so on their website. However, if you share an example of the proper format, it would be easy to convert transactions to the right capital gain info and then upload that.
If your CSV import fails, the TurboTax error message tells you exactly what header keywords to use !!!
I agree that this CSV file format should be published. There are some of us who have crypto on different exchanges and in hardware vaults. If we keep each transaction in a spreadsheet all through the year then we don't have to pay out the rear for services like Cointracker. CSV files are old school and they work. I think TurboTax is just trying to make it seem proprietary in order to generate revenue for themselves and their partners.
