Probably...just go ahead and enter your information manually.

The PDF uploads transfer so little info as to be almost useless...just names birthdates and AGI ("supposedly" )...so it's really not very useful and you could have entered that all manually by now.

How did you do your 2019 return?  Did you use the Turbo Tax Desktop program or another company?  If you used Turbo Tax you need to transfer the data file ending in .tax2019.

Are you using the online version?  How to transfer into Turbo Tax Online, including from a pdf file or other software or from the Desktop program

How can we tell Turbotax to be smart? I did my taxes from desktop for 15 years, and want to switch to on-line. Its absolutely  ridiculous that you can't transfer your turbo tax file from the download version to the on-line version. Yes, the upload PDF DOES NOT WORK I have many rental properties with tax loss so it would be a nightmare to re-input all the details. Can we have a boycott until Turbo tax enters the 21st century?  I've never seen such a poorly managed company! I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue and too complicated to switch to another company.

@deborah-iskandar

TTX "Onlne" Does offer a way to upload the "prior" year's full .tax2019 datafile, with all it's details, into the 2020 Online software.   You just can't upload a 2020 .taxfile into Online 2020

So you should be able to do want you want and get all the details....but you'll hate the Online software if you've been using desktop for years.  (no "Forms Mode" , and the interview flow can get convoluted)

Here's the FAQ instructions   (and Online Premier is required for rental properties):

You will need to have the .tax2019 file on your computer.  If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year........

If you already started an online return you will have to clear it and start over to transfer.  How to clear and start over

If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2020 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

There is far more than that basic information in more complicated returns. Rental properties, business deductions, depreciated assets, tax loss harvesting, etc. They really need to get this fixed.

@Anonymous

You tacked onto an old thread which asks a question which is answered correctly 3 times ... if you have the same question read the postings above yours for the answer.

Nope, no question at all. Just pointing out that there is far more valuable information that needs to be transferred than the post I was responding to indicated.

Yes the PDF only transfers basic personal info.  But the data file ending in .tax2019, .tax2020 etc. will transfer EVERYTHING.  You can download the .tax file from an online return to transfer into the next year's Desktop program.  Or transfer a .tax file on your computer into the Online web  version.
