You may be the first person trying to install in 2GB. !
close all other programs.
Are you sure you have enough hard drive free space ?
Make sure to close all other programs, maybe run a defrag as well. If you are using windows make sure to run OS updates and reboot at least 3 times to make sure they are all installed.

Hi @fanfare, I have updated the machine and have at least 15GB of free space in the local hard drive and a TB free in the external drive. I continue to get the "Sorry but your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements Memory (2084MB)" error which does not allow for any further actions. I also tried moving the file to an external drive and installing from there, but the same issues occur. Is there another version that is in line with the Intuit documentation of a "recommendation" instead of requirement? Those two words are not exactly interchangeable in the software world in my humble opinion.
Installation must go to the hard drive not a removable drive and you can use the Basic if you don't need a state return or the Deluxe if you do since all the downloaded versions handle all the same forms. Don't know which program you are trying to install.
Hi Critter, I restarted 3 times after updates, defragmented the system and do not have any other programs running. I am Installing from the hard drive still yields the same error statement and result. This is the deluxe version from Costco from the link provided through that transaction.
hard drive and memory are not the same thing.....
pull up the task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and see what is consuming your memory,,,
Which Windows version?
2gb is really not enough for modern Windows.
4 is the min and 6 or 8 is recommend.
You might try to increase the page file size to 2GB.
Actually, you need 2GB of "available" memory. But if you've got 15Gb of RAM installed now, this should not be an issue.
What version of Windows are you on? I'm on Windows 10 version 20H2 myself.
From an administrative command prompt try an online system cleanup. The command is:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Reboot when done. Note the process can take 10 minutes or more.
Thanks Carl, that is a long way from recommended 2GB to required >2GB of free memory. This is the same system that has run turbotax for years for me and it is the only windows system I own. Windows 10 Home, Version 1909.
Thanks @NCperson, each thread needs a worst and least helpful response, so yours has officially filled that spot..... thanks..... for.........0.0
It appears clear that the verbiage for the product this year needs to be updated to reflect reality of:
1. >2GB Available or Free Memory REQUIRED
2. Removal of false 'recommended' verbiage from products and web materials
Are there any versions that are less than 2GB of required AVAILABLE memory for download as I have a degree of confidence that your development and management teams may have underestimated this population, which my system falls into. This is the first time that it has been an issue with any software including years of both turbotax personal and business and I am sure others will have this same problem.
If not, then I think it is time to escalate to the management team in Carmel Valley to resolve this issue and get one published.
I have the same problem, will not install due to Memory not meeting requirements (2048MB). I have plenty of HD space.vvI shut down the antivirus, all unneeded programs at startup, expanded the page file, even booted into "safe mode" and still cannot install the due to the same insufficient memory limit. Note I have 10 years of TTax Deluxe/H&B installed so all those installed just fine. Intuit: is there an "install switch/parameter" that can be used when installing so that they installer bypasses this problematic, non-working restriction? Please respond and be specific. (Note: I am NOT going to go out and buy a new computer just to install "this year's/2020 turbotax.) Thank you in advance for a direct and specific response.
i am not a computer expert but it may be that some of your memory is being used by other programs. some programs are what is referred to as TSR (terminate and stay resident) in memory thus making much less than the 2GB needed available. even if you do get it to install, it might crash during use due to insufficient memory. I know of no switch or parameter that can be set to bypass this issue. i assume you can't upgrade the memory. I'm surprised that there is only 2gb on a win 10 operating system
contact support and see if they can help.
Well Mike, I knew all that, and did all that, too. "Ending high memory use tasks" via "Task Manager". I had 1.8GB of RAM available. TTax should be able install in that, as it did each of the last 10 years. FYI, it's an ASUS Netbook and you're right, the RAM cannot be upgraded. FYI also, Win 10 installs just fine in 2GB RAM, and meets their "min memory requirement" for the 64-bit version. See below. This is yet another clear TTax bad programming problem. There's plenty of unused "pagefile space". My suggestion: "use it".
The system requirements for Windows 10 are fairly modest. Here are the minimum requirements for Windows 10:
I don't use the Cloud, or keep any personal data in it. I would make the same recommendation to any client.
Here's what worked for me. From your install directory, open the "turbotax 2020" directory. Now run "turbotax 2020 installer.exe". The install started without issue, completed as it should.
I surmise the setup.exe requires the 2gb minimum before poceeding to "turbotax 2020 installer.exe". My hp envy x10 has the atom 32gb processor with soldered in 2gb ram and win10. Hopefully, it will install on your similar notebook.
I'm getting the same thing. I have 11Gb RAM free and HDD space out the wazoo. I am running Windows 10 Home (10.0.19041 Build 19041). How do I get around this? Disabled/exited everything in my tray bar. Still a no go! Last years TT Deluxe loaded w/o issue.
I just tried to run the installer directly, now I get that my D:\Program Files (x86)\TurboTax\Deluxe 2020 path is an "Invalid Installation Path" and to make sure that I have write access to it! I just copied all the files from the installation disk and am running the installer from that location. What, am I now forced to load to my C: drive, where I absolutely don't want it? Any other suggestions?
Sorry ... but if you don't put it on the C drive where the updates will find it the program will be useless.
It would be really great of that would state that in stead of just "Invalid Path". I hate clogging up my SSD boot drive with unnecessary (non-operating system) programs that could reside on another drive. OK, thanks.
There's a way around that, so that you can still install it on the D: drive.
- Create a directory on the C: drive ca;;ed "D". (I.e., the folder path will be "C:\D"
- In Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Mangement, right click the D: drive, select Change Drive Letters & Paths and remove the drive letter from the drive.
- Right click the D: drive again, select Change Drive Letters & Paths and select Mount in the Following Empty NTFS folder.
- Click the Browse button, navigate to and selec the C:\D folder and click OK.
- Click OK again to close the mounting dialog box, and you're done.
- As for as your operating system is concerned, there is no physical "D" drive. Everything on your D: drive is now located in the C:\D folder.
You can now install the TurboTax program in the C:\D\Program Files (x86) directory.

So what is the answer for those of us who have faithfully been using Turbo Tax Deluxe for years, and are now getting this "Sorry but your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Memory (2048MB)" crap. I don't want to mess with creating a new drive. I'm not going to buy a new computer just for Turbo Tax. They really need to address this problem. I'm pissed.
TurboTax Online is available for filing your taxes too. The minimum system requirements are different.
Please review the requirements below.
