We are ready to e-file, and when we get to the point of paying the $19.95 fee, we can't get past it. We have tried both options:
-- Credit card, with several different credit cards. All are good. When Amex is rejected and we call to check with them to see why, they say there has been no approval request rejected, try again
-- Deduct from refund - but then it says that option is not available at the moment, try a credit card.
This is happening on Feb 20, 2020.

Turbo Tax customer service can't find my account or phone number when I tried to call them to ask why e-file won't accept any credit card. I ended up having to print the forms instead of e-file for its difficult to get through the automated system. I may need to switch to another tax company if this continues
I had this problem. Tried to e-file with $24.99 charge but Turbo Tax would not accept. Tried a different credit card didn't work. Contacted customer service no help. Had to print off copies and filed manually. Oh well back to the stone age.
I am having this problem like many others today 5/29/2020. I will not pay your charge of $39 since postage will be far less. Like others, it may be time to look for another service for my taxes in 2020.
I also had this problem where I had a credit card saved and it would not let me change it. I finally logged into https://accounts.intuit.com/index.html - and was able to change it there, so that when I paid for state return, it pre-populated it, and after I entered the security code on the card, the Continue button lit up. That is where the credit card info is saved. Using that URL, you can either create an account if you don't have one, or update your account info for Turbotax. Hope this helps.
Today is 9/24/20 and I am also having this issue. I have tried paying on my computer with a credit card and also on my phone with apple pay and Turbo tax keeps saying there is an issue we could not load the data or check your connection. I have a connection, credit cards are good and I just can't pay. I have spoken to two different reps. They said clear your cache memory - tried that still didn't work. Maybe this is a way for them to push everyone to pay with their federal taxes, so they can charge us extra $40. This is the last year I will use Turbo tax, it's better to go see an expert in person or go to H&R block.
Brand new Windows 10 PC. When I tried to buy a 2nd state or e-file a state -- a browser window would open to take your money, but when you click links or buttons in it nothing happens.
This worked for me. Your results may vary.
Make sure you have Java installed. Google "Java download" and install it.
Close TurboTax. Reboot your PC
Change Display settings: Start > Settings > System > Display. Change "Scale and layout" from 125% (Recommended) to 100%.
Thank you so so so much. I couldn't
find anything. But your solution was on Point. God has a special place in Heaven for people like you who take their time to do this for people like me. I was so frustrated!! Seriously thank you from the bottom of my heart. I do taxes for my family. 😎😍😍
I'm having the same issue and this is the 2nd year in a row this has happened to me. How has Intuit not fixed this obvious problem? Last year I spoke to a customer service agent who didn't help at all. I've matched my name, address, etc. exactly with my profile and tried all of the trouble shooting steps on here. I even tried different cards. Very disappointing from TurboTax.
There's one additional step after you change display settings to 100% -- close TurboTax and then restart.
I'm also encountering the same problem. I have tried several bank cards and credit cards with the same issue. I even installed Java/restarted the computer with no luck. I have sent an email to the Support Team, but no response. I'm at a loss for how to actually resolve this??
Here is the crazy work around that helped me update the credit card on my account:
2/1/22
Same issue, removing the middle initial from the CC name (even though it's on the CC) worked for me.
There is a known issue regarding an error message when paying with a credit card that we are working to resolve. You can sign up for progress updates regarding this experience in the below TurboTax help article.
Why am I receiving an error message when I try to pay with a credit card?
same here and it took FOREVER to get through all the hoops!!!
After an hour with awesome tech Daniel, he suggested that we change our mailing address under "My Info" to 123 Main Street, but keep all other information the same. Then try it again. I did & it worked! Eureka!! Thank you, Daniel!
I just used method recommended by Surfname on February 28, 2022, address to 123 Main Street. It worked! And this is the last year I use TurboTax, any product that can't figure out how to take payment, doesn't deserve my business!
It worked if you enter your billing address, please try entering 123 Main St (rather than your actual address), your city and your state. I used "TurboTax Premier Desktop 2021 for US Windows Download" and it worked like charm
THIS IS GROSS NEGLIGENCE AND RECKLESS INDIFFERENCE TOWARDS THEIR CUSTOMERS! Turbo tax knows that THEIR system has a problem and they have DONE NOTHING to solve it for many years. They have you buy a program, and then at the most critical time when you go to file a return, they add on extra fees that you then can’t pay because of their system problem which then prevents you from filing your taxes. This is a total wanton disregard of their customers!
This happened to me 2 years in a row. The first year they couldn’t find out what was going wrong and I had to use someone else. This year a customer service rep solved the whole thing with a shot in the dark.
what she suggested and worked: for your billing address put “123 main st” as the street address and then just your regular city state and zip. Went right through with this.
For anyone with this issue in the future, I FINALLY found a solution that worked. I direct messaged TurboTax on Facebook and the reply was: when you enter your billing address use your name and 123 Main St, use your city and zip. The 123 Main St did the trick for me! I tried so many cards and browsers before this solution. Hope it works for you as well.
