See https://quickemployerforms.intuit.com/faq.htm (which only indicated "January").
Otherwise, e-file is supposed to be available today (1/4/2024), by Intuit, generally, so you might want to try later in the day or tomorrow.
I'm experiencing the same issue. Does TurboTax know this issue exists?
It still shows E-File will be available soon. Do I need to pay turbotax first?
Ok folks ... patience is a virtue. Once the QUICK EMPLOYERS FORMS tool opens for efiling you can efile the forms ... you do have until 1/31 to do this and today is only 1/6. What you can do is print the 1099s for the contractors and distribute them now ... you don't have to wait to do that and you don't have to pay for the TT program either.
When i try to print the forms to manually send them off, Copy A is missing from each 1099-NEC, the copy you send to the IRS
When using the Quick Employer's Forms tool you MUST efile the forms ... that option will be available soon.
Are you using the Online Quick Employer Forms? Quick Employer Forms only supports e-filing of the forms with the IRS and Social Security Administration. Copy A of the Form 1099 and W-2 are only used for e-filing and are not provided for printing.
See list of Quick Employer Forms questions
https://quickemployerforms.intuit.com/faq.htm#WhereIsCopyA
Also.....Copy A for the Internal Revenue Service now prints 3 people per page on Copy A. So if you have 4 people it will print 1 on one page and 3 on another page.
I am leaving out of the country soon can I access my w2 and 1099 in turbo tax to efile them when I am out of the country. Do we know when it will open up to efile. Is this a turbo tax thing or are they waiting for the IRS to open up
Just keep checking back to efile. It is probably too early. They are not due to the IRS until Jan 31. You can still print out the copies to give to the individuals.
1099 forms go to the IRS and the W-2/3 forms go to the SS administration and neither have opened the efiling process yet ... patience will be needed. Expected that both will open by next Monday as that is the normal time frame but until the official word is out we wait.
In the mean time, you can still print out and distribute the forms to the employees/contractors and efile the Copy A's later from anywhere you can access the internet.
Well that is interesting as I called the IRS today and then told me they are up and running. I contacted another company that does efiling and they said it is up and running. But I want to use Turbo Tax but will be out of the country starting next Sunday.
Please be patient until that (no extra charge ...IE free) Quick Employer's Forms tool is ready to efile.
You cannot send in a printed off copy of the 1099 or W-2 for filing with the federal gvt. You must use their red copy.
You can print out the W2 and 1099 to give to your employees now and wait to efile them to the IRS and ssa. Unless you are using the Windows Desktop Home & Business program and selected the method to do them inside the program instead of the online Quick Employer Forms.
I also have Home & Business to do my personal.
Are you saying in the H&B version, I'm able to create the same 1099-NEC and have it e-filed right now without any problems @VolvoGirl ?
Wait patiently, coming soon, and check back, are not things that you tell a business owner who is approaching a deadline to file important tax papers.
Not sure if anyone from Intuit corporate is aware of what we're dealing with
Could not agree more. They say it is not open but go to Social security site and it says it is accepting efiling of w2. Contacted two other companies that you can efile W2 and they are submitting them now. I do not care to wait. I am leaving the country and want to get them done before I leave.

Apparently you can now efile the forms. But to clarify my prior post. No, you can only efile the forms by using the online QEF program. But in the Windows H&B version you can do them 2 ways, either Online using Quick Employer Forms (QEF) -or- directly on your computer with the built in W2/1099 Reporter. If you use the Reporter on your computer you have to mail them to the IRS and not efile.
As of today, 01/11/2024, I am able to e-file using Quick Employee Forms. Two days ago it said "available soon."
Do we have to pay extra for forming a 1099 NEC for contractor in Quick Employer Forms if I have subscribed a premium package for online version?
