Just spent an hour on the Intuit Turbotax website. I saw some info that Turbotax 2023 will run under Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.10 and many other places that say it won't. I've been using Turbotax since about 1988 and have purchased it every year. I used the Business version until I retired and sold my limited partnerships and no longer had to file trust returns.
I'm retired, but need the Premier version because of my investment portfolio at Schwab. I can't believe that Intuit has dropped support for the Mac world using Mac OS Big Sur. Looks like the on-line version leaves much to be desired.
I've watched Turbotax improve each year and love the improvements. Just can't believe they fail to support a large segment of their customer base.
Is it absolutely final that they will no longer support a computer running Mac OS Big Sur 11.7 for 2023 returns?
Anyone suggest another brand that will work as well as Turbo Tax?
I've lost my respect and support for Intuit.

Sorry. If your Mac OS cannot be upgraded from Big Sur, it will not meet the system requirements to use the CD/download for 2023 tax returns. You can still use online if you want to use TurboTax. Otherwise, guess you start shopping around for other tax software.
Thanks for your reply and condolences, Champ.
Are you saying that if I download Turbotax Premier 2023 from the Internet to my Mac computer running Mac OS Big Sur, that it will work? Is it only the CD version that has problems under BigSur? Or, is the download version also not compatible with Mac OS BigSur? Probably not the case, but I needed to ask. BigSur is 64-bit code. Wonder what it is missing that Turbotax needs.
The online version is quite limited and I don't think it will work for me..
The CD and the download are exactly the same software. No difference in whether one or the other will work on your OS. Sorry.
Sorry----we are TurboTax users. You will need to seek other tax software on your own. There are a number of programs that will likely work on your Mac. Read their system requirements before you make a purchase.
Thanks.
I was also a TT user up until about two hours ago. Unfortunately it looks like the long run is about to end.
Good luck!
What a shock! Didn't expect this.
My Mac is 2017, still runs perfectly but the Big Sur OS can't be upgraded. Now I need a new Mac to do my taxes!
Unhappy with Apple AND Intuit on this.
I have saved Turbotax files going back to 1992. I was using it in the 1980s. At 81 years of age I'm not anxious to learn a new tax preparation system, nor do I want to hire a CPA to do my relatively simple taxes now. The 1099s are starting to come in and I want to get my 2023 income taxes prepared. Maybe the other tax preparation programs will work as well as Turbotax, but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I really like Turbotax!
Not sure if this is an Intuit problem or an Apple problem. There are many, many computers out there that can't be upgraded past MacOS Big Sur. And many of their owners are Turbotax users.
So, I found an older MacBook Pro that can run the Ventura MacOS. Had to share the Tax files between my iMac running Big Sur and the MacBook Pro running Ventura. Yesterday I ordered the 2023 Turbotax Premier from Amazon and expect it to arrive today. I'm seeing the 1099s coming in from my investments. So, the tail is wagging the dog, but at least I can get my 2023 income taxes done this year without having to try "new" software. I really do like Turbotax! Hope 2024 Turbotax will run on the Ventura MacOS!
Still wonder why the 64bit MacOS Big Sur can't support 2023 TurboTax. It does support most other 64bit applications. It's not an Intel processor problem as the MacBook Pro has an Intel processor. I suspect there are many unhappy Mac users who are also dedicated Turbotax users. Planned obsolescence is a shame! Wonder how long Turbotax will support the Ventura MacOS? If this doesn't work, I'll post the results.
Sorry for the long post. Maybe someone at Intuit will see how many are affected by this!

@veehbj You only need to copy the .tax2022 file from the old computer to the new computer to Transfer 2022 into 2023.
Yes. I can do that. I keep the old files for future reference but haven't needed them. I try to save everything each year, including all the workbooks. I also keep a printed copy.
It's nice that Turbotax can load last years tax data when it first starts a return (if it can find it) to save hand entering everything.
Not very happy with Intuit by not making 2023 TT available on MacOS Big Sur. Not sure what you're thinking. Expecting me to purchase/upgrade my laptop so I can download your software or use your online version. Been using TT for 20 years plus. Will be requesting a refund.
Unfortunately, the other tax software really couldn't compare to TT. I ended up buy a new Mac Mini over the weekend Got a good deal at the Navy Exchange and it was tax free. It still sucks having to buy a new computer when my Macbook is still running strong. Looks like I will have to get a little more creative this year to offset the unexpected expense of doing taxes.
I still wonder what is missing in Mac OS BigSur 11.7 that won't allow Turbotax to run. Haven't seen a reason from Intuit.
This is very disappointing Big Sur OS was released just over three years ago and Intuit no longer supports this compatibility in this short amount of time for product lifecycle management.
I've been using Turbo Tax for nearly 15 years and my decision is to now to purchase a new computer?!?! Please log this complaint along to the product management team. Discontinuing support for a 3 year old operating system requirement is absurd.
You can use the ONLINE program instead if your OS will no longer work with the downloaded/CD version. Apple has an aggressive OS retirement program which is not controlled by TT. Even if you could find a tax program that will still work with your OS this year it will not next year ... for instance H&R Block trails behind only one year as a rule.
My solution is to load Ventura onto an external hard drive. I'm running on it now but haven't put TurboTax on so don't know if there will be any issues. I will most likely wind up running everything from this external and I'll update when I've got it all working, but wanted to post this as an alternative to consider for those not wanting to buy a new Mac!
Interesting idea however the program will probably not work correctly on an external hard drive but good luck.
I just returned my TT 2023 to Amazon...not expecting it would not run on my MacBook pro.. downloaded H&R Block and it loaded fine and will get me through this year. I know TT is pushing their online program but I will be **bleep** to put my information out there and have no idea the control of my personal financial information. No thanks...
@Critter-3, works like a dream. The hard drive is running Ventura and is now my startup drive.
Update: Loaded TurboTax onto my external drive running Ventura, started my return and all is going smoothly.
Evamac,
This is my third try to reply. First two were deleted before I could send them.
Which Mac computer are you running and can it be updated past Big Sur? My iMac will not run anything past that. I'm surprised that yours will run on an external drive, unless it will run Ventura.
My MacBook Pro has been upgreaded to the latest version of Ventura and I will install my Turbotax Premier as soon as the 1099s are all her.

Having trouble signing into the Turbotax users support group. I keep getting a spinning symbol that goes on for ever. Not sure how I got into this to make the above post. It doesn't show that I'm logged in to the Turbotax community, but my post above was posted.
I suspect that the Intuit servers can't handle the volume of traffic today. This is frustrating to say the least. I'm curious to see if this and the previous post were actually posted to the user forum.
