TurboTax payment didn't process my federal tax payment with the app now I'm being charged a failure to pay fee and interests. Will TurboTax contact the IRS to resolve?

TurboTax payment didn't process with the app and when I queried your organization, since I received no further communication, I was told to make the payment directly with the IRS federal payment online. I received a letter in the mail this weekend with failure-to-pay free and interest charges added for the month delay. This would have been higher if I didn't contact TurboTax when I did. Will TurboTax contact the IRS and resolve this and have these fees removed from my profile since it was the app the never processed my payment?

No TurboTax will not contact the IRS and pay the penalty.  You need to do that yourself.  Then file an accuracy claim with TurboTax and if it determined to be TurboTax error, TurboTax will reimburse you for the penalty.  You have 60 days to file your claim.

Sorry no.  Turbo Tax just sends your bank info to the IRS to debit your account.  If your bank routing number or account number were wrong the IRS couldn't pull it out of your account.  Or were you suppose to mail a check?  You should double check the numbers with your bank.  Some banks use different routing number from deposits and payments.  You need to pay the IRS as soon as possible to stop the interest from accruing.

Here is a blank 1040V payment voucher.  Write your ssn 1040V 2023 on both the front and back of the check.

Or Pay the IRS directly at

This happened to me too. It said that my payment went through and there was no reason for it not to go through. I was charged late fees and interests for a payment I thought I'd made. If TurboTax won't reimburse, I guess it's time to switch to a better platform.

If for any reason another payment method didn't work, you can always go to the IRS website and use their Direct Pay system.

If you pay any penalty or interest that you believe is attributable to a problem with TurboTax, you can file an application for reimbursement of penalty or interest that you paid to the IRS or state (based on a first notice only) using this online tool.

If you are filing for a penalty already paid for tax year 2024, and the drop down menu on the website only shows 2023 and prior years, select 2023 and the Guarantee team will review your claim.

The fact is turbo tax told us it would be easy to directly pay our state through them. We already know we can directly pay the IRS.

if anyone is reading this don’t chance it and just pay directly. Turbo tax drops the ball when it comes to anything other than federal.

I used Turbotax and electronic payment via turbotax for 2024.

Guess what?

State taxes went through, account was deducted what I owed a few days after 4/15/25.

Buuuut:

nothing from the IRS. for 6 weeks. Then a letter asking for 700 more because I failed to pay ...

What ? really? Was it DOGE ? not being able to deduct what I owed while state tax dues were deducted, I suspect its Turbotax.

Filed a complaint with Turbotax. Quo vadis ? of course IRS has no contact or complaint info....
